Ink lasts a lot longer than it tells you, January 11, 2008
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
I've had this printer for several months now, and I'm very happy with it. Great print quality for general use, and the scan/copy/fax functions are just fine for casual use. One pointer: I've noticed that the ink cartridges last a long time after the printer is telling you it's low. When the warning comes up, I go and buy a new cartridge, but I wait until the quality of the printouts actually starts to drop before I put the new cartridge in.

Troublesome, May 1, 2008
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
On the surface, The Lexmark X5470 looks like a great deal; it is a copier, printer, scanner and fax too. It also has an automatic document feeder and can print pictures directly from the memory card thru the built in PicBridge port and media card slot, however, you need a special photo color cartridge in place of the black ink cartridge. You can copy / scan /fax using the flat bed or the document feeder. All that at around $80. But the good stuff ends there. Print quality is poor, picture quality is even worse; and it uses ink like there is no tomorrow, expect around 150 pages before the Lexmark starts telling you to order new ink cartridge. If you want to get a generic or refilled ink cartridge, the Lexmark does not like that, and it will keep telling you that it's out of original ink. You may even get an error message to change the cartridge and the machine will stop working until you do so. In short, you will have to use the original Lexmark ink cartridges at around $50 for the pair. The most annoying thing is the "clear carrier jam" message, which keeps coming even though there is no "jam" anywhere in the machine. To clear it, you will have to turn it off, unplug it, remove both ink cartridges, plug it again, turn it on, reinstall the cartridges, and keep your fingers crossed that this will clear it. If not, try again. Will I buy it again? Never. Would I recommend it? No way. Lexmark: I hope you do better next time.

Affordable 4-in-1 Machine, October 27, 2007
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
I'll admit it... I am partial to HP products but lately tired of talking to Tech Support in God only knows what country so for the price I went with this Lexmark X5470 and so far so good. I haven't had to find out what country their Tech Support / Customer Service is located in. The machine offers a decent print quality for the home user and the all in one options: copier, printer, scanner and fax provide adequate low volume results. The ports for using memory cards is a nice feature as well. The automatic document feeder sometimes jams but leaving the cover up for paper exit is suitable to combat the problem but not practical for heavy volumes. Lexmark brand ink is expensive and using compatibles or refills gives annoying warning messages about voided warranty status. I've had several experiences where the reinking just hasn't worked at all but that's a process thing and not endorsed by Lexmark. They naturally want to sell their own brand supplies because that's where their money is. All in all if a $20 ink cartridge lasts 3-4 months or longer, it's not such a bad thing. Your cost per copy is dependant on use and again this is not a workhorse machine. I would recommend the product, again considering the price. The X5470 has nice features... scanning, faxing, and copying in addition to just printing is perfect for a home office where space is an issue. I'd pass on the extended warranty though.
