4.0 out of 5 stars Ink lasts a lot longer than it tells you
I've had this printer for several months now, and I'm very happy with it. Great print quality for general use, and the scan/copy/fax functions are just fine for casual use. One pointer: I've noticed that the ink cartridges last a long time after the printer is telling you it's low. When the warning comes up, I go and buy a new cartridge, but I wait until the quality of...

This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
On the surface, The Lexmark X5470 looks like a great deal; it is a copier, printer, scanner and fax too. It also has an automatic document feeder and can print pictures directly from the memory card thru the built in PicBridge port and media card slot, however, you need a special photo color cartridge in place of the black ink cartridge. You can copy / scan /fax using the flat bed or the document feeder. All that at around $80. But the good stuff ends there.
Print quality is poor, picture quality is even worse; and it uses ink like there is no tomorrow, expect around 150 pages before the Lexmark starts telling you to order new ink cartridge. If you want to get a generic or refilled ink cartridge, the Lexmark does not like that, and it will keep telling you that it's out of original ink. You may even get an error message to change the cartridge and the machine will stop working until you do so. In short, you will have to use the original Lexmark ink cartridges at around $50 for the pair.
The most annoying thing is the "clear carrier jam" message, which keeps coming even though there is no "jam" anywhere in the machine. To clear it, you will have to turn it off, unplug it, remove both ink cartridges, plug it again, turn it on, reinstall the cartridges, and keep your fingers crossed that this will clear it. If not, try again.
Will I buy it again? Never. Would I recommend it? No way.
Lexmark: I hope you do better next time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Affordable 4-in-1 Machine, October 27, 2007
By

This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
I'll admit it... I am partial to HP products but lately tired of talking to Tech Support in God only knows what country so for the price I went with this Lexmark X5470 and so far so good. I haven't had to find out what country their Tech Support / Customer Service is located in.

The machine offers a decent print quality for the home user and the all in one options: copier, printer, scanner and fax provide adequate low volume results. The ports for using memory cards is a nice feature as well. The automatic document feeder sometimes jams but leaving the cover up for paper exit is suitable to combat the problem but not practical for heavy volumes.

Lexmark brand ink is expensive and using compatibles or refills gives annoying warning messages about voided warranty status. I've had several experiences where the reinking just hasn't worked at all but that's a process thing and not endorsed by Lexmark. They naturally want to sell their own brand supplies because that's where their money is. All in all if a $20 ink cartridge lasts 3-4 months or longer, it's not such a bad thing. Your cost per copy is dependant on use and again this is not a workhorse machine.

I would recommend the product, again considering the price. The X5470 has nice features... scanning, faxing, and copying in addition to just printing is perfect for a home office where space is an issue.

I'd pass on the extended warranty though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer!, September 7, 2007
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
This X5470 is a great 4-in-1 printer. It is sturdy and user-friendly.It allows you to make 2-sided copies. It produces great colored copies, but the colors are not replicated exactly...pretty close though. It is also not a great space-saver, so I would not recommend it for your student's dorm room.I had bought this printer for my twin sons' college dorm, but I had to give up my little HP 4-in-1 to them.
The thing I like about this is its versatility. You can also download
photos from your digital camera or cellphone card.
You can also send faxes 2 ways, although I have only faxed one way, the top of the machine above the glass.I set up this printer without following any directions. It is that easy to figure out!So buy it! And it's
a great bang for your buck! This thing should be selling for $300.00. It is way more efficient than a lot of more expensive printers out there. I don't know why Lexmark has under-valued this product.
Have a blessed day!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
I'm no techie, but I found this printer easy to set up (once I downloaded the correct drivers from the lexmark website) and to use. I'd been using a Lexmark Z11 for almost nine years and had been very happy with it so, though it was still working fine, when I decided to get a new printer to go with my new computer, it was a no-brainer to buy another Lexmark.

It's as quick as the laser printer that I use at work and the print quality is very good. I have used the scanner and printer functions and find that they are easy to use and of excellent print quality.

I'd recommend this printer to anyone who is looking for a multi-function at a great price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Printer I have ever owned, April 16, 2008

This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
Why? There are so many reasons, here are a few in no particular order:

Poorly written printer driver.

Scan program that ships with the printer is even worse than the one that ships with Windows. My scanner scans crookedly, I have to place the paper on the scan bed crookedly to compensate.

Printer cartridge is far from empty when the annoying pop-ups to order more ink start to appear. They reappear despite telling them not to.

I am giving it one star because my cat enjoys sitting on it when it is in use because it vibrates so much.

I have been in the computer service business, recently retired, for 15 years, and normally I do not get made at computer equipment. This printer is the exception. I plan to smash it on the sidewalk as soon as I run out of ink and have a replacement in place.

Admittedly a low end all-in-one printer, but if this is an example of what Lexmark sells, I will never buy another product made by this company.

2.0 out of 5 stars cheap price for a cheap printer w/BAD customer service, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
I bought this printer because my old Lexmark x7170 printer cartridge was acting up. When I called customer service, it ended up freezing the whole printer and they offered a discount to buy another (good ploy). I ended up purchasing a x5470 and I am, apparently, the only unhappy customer?

PROS
* easy to hook up printing function
* smaller model that saves space

CONS
* faxing function is a bit complicated but do-able
* scanning function did not work (unable to retrieve application)
* poor photo quality - poor resolution to colors & washed out black
* copies come out light, you need to balance near the dark end of
the spectrum to read anything
* really, really bad customer service
* a very long wait time for customer service
* returns only upon approval and at your own cost

Did I mention they had poor customer service? It took me over 2 hours to finally reach someone who handled returns (1-877-372-9321). When I called customer service about the scanning problem, I was advised by one rep to left click on my "C" drive. HUH?! Another said Lexmark does not have a refund policy (FACT: they have a 30 day return policy). Another that it was Microsoft's problem and not theirs and that I should have checked compatibility before purchasing (I have Windows XP).

I called Hewlett Packard for assistance (I have their Media model) and they helped me figure a way around Lexmark's software problem. So yes, I can finally scan but it's not worth it.

As much as I loved my Lexmark x7170, I need to go elsewhere. Anybody know a good printer? Cannon? HP? Some assistance please?

***UPDATE*****

12/08 - this printer will no longer print (the rollers do not work properly), which makes it pretty useless. It is suppose to be under manufacturer warranty but they want me to mail it to them at my own cost ($36.97) to determine if the problem is covered under warranty. It did not even last one year. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

2.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for, November 13, 2008
This review is from: Lexmark X5470 AIO All-In-One Printer - Fax, Copy, Print, Scan and Photo (22N0000) (Office Product)
I bought this one year ago and I am already looking for a new one. The biggest annoyance is the automatic feeder, which by the way you have to babysit, it likes to grab 2 to 10 sheets at a time. The power button is on it's way to jamming in either the on or off position. I have yet to figure out the best way to hook up the fax machine so that it works with my phone voice mail ( that could be my shortcomings) so I don't except incoming faxes. Oh and it only wants to fax out one out of every three times. Scanning is a bit annoying, I wanted to scan in newpaper articles well the flat part of the scan bed is not big enough. Overall it prints okay, slightly slow. I would give it one star, but atleast it lasted one year.

I could echo everything the review entitled "Troublesome" has listed along with all of the other criticisms. I liked my previous Lexmark because it printed my artwork and photos beautifully. On this machine,I was disappointed to find the colors off, and the print quality embarrassingly poor. It goes through ink like there's no tomorrow and it's not cheap. Jobs often get stuck in the queue and I can't delete them. I do know how, they just won't delete. Lately, a good half of my jobs just won't print. The paper jams that aren't are annoying. The last time I had to turn the machine off seven times to get it to agree with me that there were no paper jams. I just added a new computer to my network, which required a new driver. No go. I got a detailed email from tech support. That didn't work. Then I accidentally discovered that the new driver doesn't have the scanning software! This thing is getting replaced as soon as I can, and if I can find a good sledgehammer...I'll dispense of this Lexmark. It's been the most frustrating machine I've ever had and a big disapointment. Never again will I get a Lexmark.

This is the second Lexmark printer I owned. The first is still running but did not have a scanner or fax capabilities. For the money this is well worth it and has been working very well.
