Taking paper from a feed tray which folds up from the top surface of the machine to a near vertical position at the back, the X75 feeds to a pullout tray at the front, or directly onto the desktop. It uses the same print mechanism as the Z25 and Z34 printers, with the same diminutive color and black ink cartridges. For replacement, the top section of the all-in-one hinges up, and a red plastic stay springs out to support it, like the hood of an old sports car.
The lid of the machine lifts up to reveal an A4-size flatbed scanner, which can scan at up to 600 x 1,200 dpi resolution. A small control section at the front right of the top panel offers power, page feed, scan, black copy, and color copy buttons, plus two status lights. The real power of the machine rests in its software control, however. As well as the driver for the X75, the accompanying CD-ROMs provide OCR software, a photo editor, and fax software.
Print quality from the X75 is pretty good, with dense black text and bright, reasonably precise colors. Color print, as indicated by a 5-by-3-inch test photo, showed up well, with little noticeable banding. We noticed minor dithering, but the dither dots were so small that they were hard to see. Print times were also good for a machine at this price, though it's never going to break any speed records.
Copying was not as successful. The printed copy lost sharpness and color depth--blacks came through grey and colours looked muddy. We compensated for this, to an extent, through software manipulation, but black-and-white copies are, in general, much more successful than colour ones.
All in all, the X75 is an ideal multifunction device for home or small office use that takes up little space but delivers big results. --Simon Williams

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer (Office Product)
I purchased this printer a few months ago not because my previous printer had failed but because I simply couldn't use my scanner and printer at the same time. This printer had just been released and there was little information but I took a chance and have been incredibly happy with it since. Most of the complaints I see here seem to be a problem of unrealistic expectations. This unit is NOT a fax machine. You can scan something into your computer and fax it using a modem but that's another story. This unit is NOT a laser printer nor is it a high end photo printer. It is also NOT a stand alone copying machine. It is printer that scans and copies. I found the installation to be simple - follow the instructions that come with it and you'll be fine - be careful aligning the print cartridges (its easy but just don't blow it off) and the print quality will be significantly better. I installed the software and was a little worried when I went to print the first time and the familiar print setup page was replaced with a huge assortment of options. My worry was quickly replaced with excitement - you can store your printing preferences! If you are like me you don't need to print every webpage in beautiful color, its a waste of time and ink, so I have a setting for Black & White Draft, works like a charm. Now I must admit that the black and white printing is not any better than my old Lexmark - inkjets are inkjets. The color and picture quality though is significantly better. Using the best printing option on photo paper it was hard to tell it came from an inkjet. I have found the photocopying and scanning to be nice and clear as well. Overall I'm very pleased with this space saving printer.

Nice and Small,

This Printrio is about half the size of the other All-in-ones. Setup and installation was a breeze. The scanner and printer works great. My only two issues are:1. You can't use the copier if the PC is not turned on. Since it is a new product, I can't say too much about how much ink it uses yet. They provide two regular ink cartridges (one color and one B&W) not the starter ink cartridges in some of the other machines. Overall, I like the design very much and am quite pleased with it.

I just purchased this printer and like it so far. I run Windows98 and had no problems installing the software. It prints quieter than the Kodak Picture Maker PM100 (also made by Lexmark) that it is replacing. The print quality is also better. This is also replacing a scanner that I could never get to work right as a copier. I tried the copier function on this new Lexmark X75 and it is so easy to use...you don't even need to turn the computer on. The all-in-one center screen makes scanning and copying easy. I looked at some of the other all-in-ones available and for the price and the size this one can't be beat. I'm rating it five stars for now because from what I've seen it does what it says it'll do.
