it's good for the small size, quiet machinery and 3 in 1 function. That's ALL. I've had it for six months, and like the person from San Francisco, CA, i've tried everything to clean the print cartridges and it still won't print correctly. It was the first scanner/fax machine I had, so I thought those two functions were okay. But the printer is NOT worth the money. I...

I purchased this printer a few months ago not because my previous printer had failed but because I simply couldn't use my scanner and printer at the same time. This printer had just been released and there was little information but I took a chance and have been incredibly happy with it since.

Most of the complaints I see here seem to be a problem of unrealistic expectations. This unit is NOT a fax machine. You can scan something into your computer and fax it using a modem but that's another story. This unit is NOT a laser printer nor is it a high end photo printer. It is also NOT a stand alone copying machine. It is printer that scans and copies.

I found the installation to be simple - follow the instructions that come with it and you'll be fine - be careful aligning the print cartridges (its easy but just don't blow it off) and the print quality will be significantly better. I installed the software and was a little worried when I went to print the first time and the familiar print setup page was replaced with a huge assortment of options. My worry was quickly replaced with excitement - you can store your printing preferences! If you are like me you don't need to print every webpage in beautiful color, its a waste of time and ink, so I have a setting for Black & White Draft, works like a charm.

Now I must admit that the black and white printing is not any better than my old Lexmark - inkjets are inkjets. The color and picture quality though is significantly better. Using the best printing option on photo paper it was hard to tell it came from an inkjet. I have found the photocopying and scanning to be nice and clear as well.

Overall I'm very pleased with this space saving printer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and Small, August 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer (Office Product)
This Printrio is about half the size of the other All-in-ones. Setup and installation was a breeze. The scanner and printer works great. My only two issues are:

1. You can't use the copier if the PC is not turned on.
2. The copy quality is not the best. However, if you scan and then print, the quality is quite good.

Since it is a new product, I can't say too much about how much ink it uses yet. They provide two regular ink cartridges (one color and one B&W) not the starter ink cartridges in some of the other machines. Overall, I like the design very much and am quite pleased with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars digital photo mom, August 15, 2002

I just purchased this printer and like it so far. I run Windows98 and had no problems installing the software. It prints quieter than the Kodak Picture Maker PM100 (also made by Lexmark) that it is replacing. The print quality is also better. This is also replacing a scanner that I could never get to work right as a copier. I tried the copier function on this new Lexmark X75 and it is so easy to use...you don't even need to turn the computer on. The all-in-one center screen makes scanning and copying easy. I looked at some of the other all-in-ones available and for the price and the size this one can't be beat. I'm rating it five stars for now because from what I've seen it does what it says it'll do.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE machine for real work, December 20, 2002
By A Customer

I have to laugh at the LONG (and inaccurate) review that tries to suggest that the writer (who doubtless works for another printer co ) found the X-75 "aveage"!!
Average my sweet little can!
This is a simple easy to use machine that does it ALL and is easy enough for a beginner (like me) to use with stunning results.
In fact, I have just purchased my SECOND so that it'll be available for a long long time.
Buy this machine if you have any real work to do .

5.0 out of 5 stars So Happy!!!, February 15, 2003

My Canon 2100 printer recently died on me. Since I am a college student I did a lot of research to find a good new, yet very cheap, printer. I found this Lexmark X75 on sale at... I am so happy with how well it works. As soon as I got it I printed, scaned and copied. I was so happy with the results. The scaned picture looked great. The copy came out wonderful. The printing was quiet and of good quality also. I live in an apartment with four other people and this 3-in-1 is so small it fits anywhere. Right now I have it on my desk hutch. The only small problem I had was loading the software onto my Dell. The directions said not to use the Wizard Application that automatically pops up on your computer when something new is connected to it. Instead, it tells you to use the software CD. My software CD was not reading the printer though. So I used the Wizard anyway and it worked fine. I would really recommend this printer to anyone. I like how it says "printing started" and "printing complete." It is also helpful in that it tells you how much ink it has left in the tank. When you want to print it will automatically turn on if it is not already. I love it and cannot find anything wrong with it. I'm SO glad I decided on this one!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Installation problems, your solution to a nightmare!, April 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer (Office Product)
Hi i have just purchased the x75 and set it up on my main computer works fine, for the money its a good all rounder.
but unfortunatly it has a very sever installation problem with some computers, be aware its not a fault of your computer! just a few simply registry files that need deleting. it took over ten hours to sort the problem out and then it was installed in less than 5 minutes.

so if you have bought or are thinking buying the x75 dont be put off buy the reviews you may have read, from other users who have taken theirs back as they cannot get it to work.

this has been tested on winME and it works, it should also work on 98/2000 and xp but it has not been tested.

if you have tried to install the printer and it just will not work, then right click my computer on the desktop select properties, select the device manager tab and look for imaging device, select the x75 and then remove, then go to the start bar then run, type REGEDIT then ok.
at the editor look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE select the + and it will open, then select ENUM then select USB in here look for files with the following name, i had three of these.
VID_043D&PID select them one at a time and press delete.
beware only delete the files that start VID_043D&PID there could be 1,2 or 3. once done close all windows unplug the mains from the printer and the usb cord.
reboot your comp insert the installation disc, put the mains back in then the usb cord.
the computer should now install and work fine.
if you follow my instruction you should be able to install it on any computer. there are a lot of bad reviews for this x75 but only because they cannot install it, if you have bought it and cannot install it please try. it does work and will save you hours, i am an experienced IT person and believe me it took a long time to work out the problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great All-in-one, August 25, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer (Office Product)
The Lexmark X75 has been a great all-in-one. My aunt has an X73, which also works well, just slower. The scanner works fabulous, and extremely well and fast. Color photos print out about average speed, but the quality is good. The copier works fast. Also, you really cannot beat the price. Most comparable HP All-in-ones cost up to $450.00. What I would recommend is to spend a few more dollars, and get the X75. The scanning for color things is probably up to 5 times faster than the X73, and a little faster for printing. My only complaint is that the paper feed is a little annoying, and I don't like the adjuster for where the paper goes. I am running Mac OS 9.2.2, and I had to download the driver, which is a 9.7 MB download and took a little while, but the software is really good. I had no problems setting things up, and everything is quick and fast. I highly recommend this all-in-one.

5.0 out of 5 stars It prints as good as it looks!, October 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer (Office Product)
Although I just bought the X-75 three days ago,I can pass a most favorable verdict now.You see it took the place of an old Canon BJC-2100.The BJC was slow, noisy and although it claimed "Photo Quality" capability it was anything but that. This printer does everything it's supposed to do well. There are more costly machines on the market, but if you don't need to spend the extra money then why do it?

Oh yeah, the downside:the itsy bitsy, teeny weeny ink cartridges.

It was the first scanner/fax machine I had, so I thought those two functions were okay. But the printer is NOT worth the money. I had my HP Deskjet for years, while this one only works for... 6 months only. And what people are saying about the ink price is true: you can buy a whole other printer by buying 2 ink cartridges. Also, their technical support seems to be a little iffy to me. The manual doesn't help you beyond the simple problems, and if you still need help... you're basically on your own. I won't try Lexmark again.
