5.0 out of 5 stars Lexmark x7675 - Easy wireless setup., September 26, 2008
This review is from: Lexmark X7675 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Kit (12V0300) (Office Product)
Lexmark made the wireless setup easy vis the enclosed computer CD installation program. I liked the automatic two sided printing too. Included in the box are extended life ink cartridges. Usually with a new printer you get limited yield cartridges.

I was able to scan pictures remotely via the wireless connection...very slick. I haven't tried the fax yet but the copy features work fine. The power is supplied via cord directly to the printer....no transformer to trip over. Print quality is good, typical ink jet. The box said the warranty is 5 years with registration. I had a Lexmark two printers ago and had trouble 3 times. Lexmark replaced the printer with a new on each time with shipping both ways at their expense.

I don't do a ton of printing so print quality and reliability are the things most important to me. So after a bunch of research I bought the Lexmark X7675.
All-in-ones tend to be a jack of all trades but a master of none, but this one seemed better than average.

Set-up was a breeze. I liked the wireless setup to cut down on cord clutter.
The print quality is good. Colors reproduce pretty much faithfully. Scan, copy fax functions work as expected.
The button panel is well laid out and logical, the display screen is bright and easy to read.

Although print quality is good, if you do a lot of printing or are in a big hurry you might be somewhat disappointed. It seems to take an awfully long time before print jobs even start and then once they do it is not particularly fast.

My only major disappointment was when I went to print labels for the first time. I got an error that said "unsupported paper type". These are standard, ordinary sheet labels that I have printed lots of times on other printers. When I contacted Lexmark support about this I was told I would have to purchase Lexmark brand labels in order for it to work.

So if you are not looking for a workhorse and don't mind being forced to buy Lexmark labels it is otherwise a decent printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Printer!, December 7, 2008

This review is from: Lexmark X7675 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Kit (12V0300) (Office Product)
I used to think rave reviews like this were planted by the manufacturer. Now I know otherwise. After suffering for a year with the horrid HP c7280, I finally decided to ditch it and get a new one. It was a tough decision, especially considering that I'd read really bad reviews of nearly all the Lexmark printers, except for the X7675, which Amazon barely seems to recognize. So I agonized for two weeks to find a suitable replacement that had all the same features as my HP but with quality ink that did not smear or bleed after drying. I finally made the leap and got the Lexmark after a successful "test drive" at a local Staples store. The Lexmark X7675 is all the HP was and more. I say "more" because it also comes with an unbelievably simple and easy setup and unobtrusive software package. All the features of an HP multifunction with none of the bloated software and way better ink quality that does not bleed, run, or smear after it dries. Who could ask for more??? It feels like falling in love again after coming out of a horrible break-up!

I just bought the Lexmark X7675 pro after a couple of months of research. i have had it for 10 days and it has ben awesome so far. Although I received prompt and courteous tech support on the phone to help me set it up... it really was a breeze. The printer now is within a wireless network and prints from three vista PC's, an XP home PC and a MacBook Pro. Total installation time on all 5 computers 74 min.
The print quality is good, copying and faxing is great and I love the auto duplexor that saves a ton of paper and trees.
The only con so far..slow response time to commence printing takes about 15 sec. Overall I am really happy with my buy. Other AIO's that are worth looking are HP Officejet J6480 and Canon Pixma MPX 850. Well done Lexmark! I really dig the no questions asked 5 year on the phone support. something no other manufacturer offers

3.0 out of 5 stars Good print quality, but pretty slow and scanning is cumbersome, April 4, 2009
By
This review is from: Lexmark X7675 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Kit (12V0300) (Office Product)
I really wanted to like this printer, but unfortunately, I cannot quite recommend it. Based on my experience, here are the pros and cons:

Pros
- Good features - wireless, scan, fax, copy, and print
- Good print quality (esp. photos)
- Automatic dual-sided printing (it prints on both sides without you having to turn the page over manually)
- Good tech support

Cons
- Needs better compression software for scanning, so that scanned files with decent resolution can be smaller
- Slow scanning, copying, and printing
- I had wireless issues with scanning (though wireless printing worked fine)
- Like most models in the all-in-one category, although this isn't the biggest model, it's still a lot bulkier than I'd like it to be (if someone can come out with a smaller/sleeker model, they could really dominate)

Based on reviews I had read on CNet and the rating on Amazon and Staples website, I decided to go with the Lexmark X7675. Unfortunately, after giving it a fair shot, I ended up returning it.

On the positive side, wireless printing worked well and was relatively quick; photo printing was very good quality. On the negative side, I don't know if having a mac had anything to do with it, but I had some issues with the wireless feature. After initially successfully setting up the wireless connection with the printer, I subsequently had some problems with the wireless connection, that required spending a LONG time on the phone with tech support to solve. Even after tech support helped me get the wireless communication back (which involved uninstalling and reinstalling 2-3 times on separate occasions), the problem continued to recur with scanning (i.e., the printer could not wirelessly connect to my computer when I tried to scan) even though wireless printing was not a problem. In all, I probably spent 2-3 hours with tech support. They were helpful and very friendly, but there's only so much tech support can do.

Most reviews I read didn't focus much on scanning, but that's an important feature for me since I'd rather just scan stuff and keep it electronically (better for the environment and less bulky than keeping paper); and scanning was the biggest problem for me. I'm pretty confident I would eventually have been able to work out the wireless scanning issue with tech support if I had had the patience to call them again (which I didn't). While the scan quality was fine, one big problem was that there was apparently no compression software, so if you use the default resolution, the files are very large, even if you only scan in black and white. You can lower the resolution to decrease the file size (to less ridiculous, though still large, sizes), but when I did, the quality suffered.

I actually went into a Staples and scanned from a couple other brands/models onto a USB flash drive, just to compare; I found that the default resolutions on those machines took up a fair amount of memory as well (since I was only using the scan on the printers' control panels, which did not let me control resolution--I assume that the software you upload onto your computer when you buy these models does let you control it--I couldn't compare how much memory they took up with lower resolution), though still a lot less than the X7675. One solution which did help on the X7675 was to save files in jpg form, which seemed to take up less memory than saving them in other forms, like pdf and tiff.

Speed is another issue. It took about 10 minutes (I'm estimating--might have been longer) to copy a 14-page document. Again, good quality, but if you need to copy something in a hurry, good luck. Similarly, scanning can take a while, esp. if you play with the resolution--every time you make a change it has to rescan the document, and the annoying thing is that first it scans what's on the glass (whether or not something is there), then it checks for anything in the feeder, which takes a long time. I could go on, but the bottom line is that you end up waiting way too long.

Also, I ordered from Newegg (who at the time, had the most competitive price) and they gave me very good service. Got the printer really fast and they let me send it back at their expense (though I had to haggle a little, since they typically do not reimburse for shipping). Looks like Amazon's current price is pretty competitive now.

What can I say? It is a snap to make it the default printer for your
wireless (wifi) setup at home. The setup alone is worth the price. It's idiot proof. Everything works as advertised.

Sure, the print is not as good as a Laser printer, so get a Laser printer.
In the grand scheme of life, it wont matter whether you printed the turkey divan recipe on a laser printer or a Lexmark inkjet.

The inks last a long time. Longer than HP's cartridges. Canon's printers are good to but the wifi setup alone on this Lexmark machine is worth $100 easily to me. Kodak's new machine worked for a while and then the print head quit working. I was looking forward to using it, but alas, alak.

Not an exciting review, I know. But it should be all you need for an opinion. Lexmark is good, honest brand for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not live up to reviews, prints slowly, May 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lexmark X7675 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Kit (12V0300) (Office Product)
I researched buying a new 5-1 after the scanner stopped working on my 5-year-old HP 5150 after I tried to upgrade the software through the HP site. This was a miserable experience and enough to make me change from HP. The upshot was that after multiple attempts to reinstall including using the original software cd, I could not activate HP Director to utilize the scanner. I was able to reactivate the printer, copy, and fax functions. At this point I wish I had just purchased a scanner like the Epson V300. All-in-ones are by their nature not really good at anything as they are trying to solve several functions in one relatively small footprint.

First the X7675 is relatively inexpensive at the $100 price point. The setup is easy and quick. I had problems inserting the print cartridges and called the support line. I had a fast answer by a helpful and knowledgeable tech who had access to this model. The cartridges require some extra push down on the rear to make the lids close. Along with the 5 year warranty, this support was impressive.

The fax works fine and easily accommodates separate or shared lines. The copy function is good if a bit slow. The status window not only gives status but instructions. I have not used the memory disk slot to print photos but I assume it works okay. The wireless feature is good but I suggest that you have your wireless network already setup. I have read that like many other wireless printers, going wireless later can be somewhat of a hassle.

Those are not the primary functions that I need and use. I need the printer and the scanner. The printer is SLOW. The first page of b/w that I printed started so slowly, I thought the printer wasn't going to work. There is about a 10-20 second delay for initialization then a printer status screen appears at the lower right of the monitor. You can painfully watch the progress. Two pages per minute is fast! Quality is acceptable and identical to the HP. You will see reviews regarding how fast the ink is used. The printer gives you a low ink warning long before the ink is actually low enough to be noticeable. It is recommended to purchase the XL printer cartridges (at Amazon a pack of color and b/w XL are $45.) Photo printing is acceptable.

The scanner is almost satisfactory. The first problem is that the scan software, ABBYY 6 Express is three versions behind the current ABBYY 9. It costs about $45 to upgrade. The second problem is the paper feeder does not easily accommodate sizes other than 8 1/2 or A4. As part of my paper management, I scan almost all paperwork. This means that bills with paper sizes like American Express and ATT Mobility either have to be done on the glass or hand held to keep them from twisting. Multiple small pages are truly a hassle. Third, the OCR is very sensitive to light copies or small text. There is no way to crop prior to scanning so handwriting etc have to be eliminated when editing the text. The same is true for photos even with auto cropping. With a light original I suggest copying first. The convert to PDF files has a nice option to save the file as a single file or single file per page. This means that you probably need to sort what you scan by single or multiple pages as well as by page size. The photo editor is very limited so I suggest either Picassa (free) or Adobe PhotoShop Elements 7 (about $50.) I have been editor of a community newsletter and had scan and edit many documents and photos and the process is even slower than it was with the HP.

My low rating is based upon the slow speeds and the scanning issues. If I rarely scanned or printed large documents (many of mine are 28 pages with as many as 50 photos), I would have been more satisfied. Since this is supposed to be a small office machine, I expected more from the printer and scanner, especially based upon the reviews.

Dec 24. After using the printer fr some time, I still concur with my original review. The printer initialization is slow. Sometimes my wife thinks the printer is not working. It helps a bit if you wake up the printer before hitting the print key. Printer speed picks up on longer print jobs. I am just now running our of ink, although the low ink notice has been coming on for some time. I am happy with the print quality. By bundling my scan jobs by paper type and size, I have been more successful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only somewhat impressed, February 16, 2009
By
This review is from: Lexmark X7675 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Kit (12V0300) (Office Product)
I bought this Lexmark X7675 based on the good reviews not only here, but on cnet.com. I set it up with my wireless network and it prints nicely, but still won't scan. I am running Mac OS X 10.5, I downloaded the newest drivers from the Lexmark site, and even then it didn't work. I just got off the phone with Lexmark and after an hour and a half the service rep said she would have to call me back tomorrow...she didn't know why it wasn't working either. So, right now I'm not that impressed.

this is a good printer, an i am enjoying its wireless networking function as it allows me to place the printer anywhere i want without worrying about any cables except the power line. i am not too happy with its print quality, although it may be due to the fact that i am so used to laser printers until now. overall, i would recommend this printer to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hardware & software issues with this printer, June 2, 2009
By
Tina (Poughkeepsie, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lexmark X7675 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Kit (12V0300) (Office Product)
I got this printer last week and I really wanted to like it, but I had two major problems with it. The first was that the auto document feeder wouldn't grab the paper. The second was the catastrophic drive failure the software caused on my Dell desktop, running XP Pro. It also caused boot-up problems on my laptop running XP Home Edition. The desktop needed a clean install of XP, but as soon as the printer software was loaded again and the printer connected, it started causing problems with booting up again. I immediately removed the software on both the desktop and laptop and the boot-up issues stopped. As for the defective ADF, Lexmark was quick to send me a replacement printer, but upon receipt, I discovered it had the same exact problem. Lexmark suggested it might be that the printer was sensitive to the type of paper being used (20-lb multipurpose paper that works in every other printer I've ever owned), but I believe it was a hardware malfunction since the pickup roller wouldn't lower to grab the paper, no matter what kind of paper I inserted. They offered me yet another replacement, but I decided I didn't need a printer fraught with so many software and hardware issues and told them thanks but no thanks. Printer #1 is going back to Lexmark and Printer #2 is going back to the store. I awarded an extra star because overall, I liked the design and features of this printer, it was faster/sleeker than the Brother printer it replaced, and the software (in the short time it worked) had some nice functions. And Lexmark support was very good. They were quick to respond to my concerns and eager to resolve the matter to my satisfaction, even when I said I planned to return both printers.
