Indeed, one can do a lot from the control panel, including checking ink levels, enlarging up to poster size, and adjusting the machine's settings. The LCD is not easy to read and has no backlight, however, so you'll need a good room light source.
Paper feeds from a bin at the back of the machine through to an output tray that slides out from the front. Place your original on the glass covering the X85's flatbed scanning engine. There's no multisheet feeder, so you'll have to copy page by page, but copy times are quite reasonable, even in color.
In our tests, print quality was generally very good, with precise, dense black text and well-reproduced colours. There are two photo print modes, photo and max photo, but for most purposes the much quicker photo mode will be sufficient. There was little obvious difference in the printed output, although dithered sections of fine tone were marginally improved. Print times varied between good, for straight text prints (a five-page text document finished in just over 1.25 minutes) and extremely sluggish (a 3-by-5-inch photo in max photo mode, which took just under 8 minutes).
Despite the low-contrast LCD and slow photo printing time, the X85 is a good general-purpose multifunction device, offering strong software support, and is ideal when space is at a premium. --Simon Williams

I bought the Lexmark x85 after having some experience with Lexmark printers. The print quality is very good and the speed when printing text leaves nothing to be desired. When printing color it's a bit more sluggish but the outcome is usually worth the wait. Just be sure all your color settings are set on the PC.The power saving feature and LCD status are a definite plus. It has helped me save a bit of space and it's a very affordable price to pay for a copying machine that doesn't need the PC to work. It even acts as a fax that I might use if I put a modem back in the machine. The controls are clear you can't beat it's sleak black color for those who are fashion concious. I say, great printer, copier, scanner and fax machine (modem needed) all in one.... Be sure you don't forget to buy that USB cable to connect it though. USB is the only option you have.

I too got this printer with a new Dell computer, but I have had NO PROBLEMS!!! The software install is flawless and the printer itself is so user friendly. I have NEVER HAD any paper jams or problems with ink or scanning. What more could you want from a print/scanner combination, this printer is a piece-of-cake.

It's junk!,

This printer came with my new Dell computer back in November. I have had nothing but trouble with this printer. The paper jambs EVERY time I want to print something. And once it jambs the software wants you to delete the program and reinstall. This printer is junk. Spend your money on a different machine.
