2.0 out of 5 stars Poor performance.
This printer was free with a purchase of a PC, and that's the only reason I did not give it a ONE star rating!
The paper feeds incorrectly and jams the machine. This happens with every print job. You have to hand feed the sheets to keep them from ripping. Also, the default print settings can not be changed from the factory settings. You have to set up a print...

The paper feeds incorrectly and jams the machine. This happens with every print job. You have to hand feed the sheets to keep them from ripping. Also, the default print settings can not be changed from the factory settings. You have to set up a print profile and check it every time.
I would not recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ink hard to find, December 3, 2002

I have had no problems with my z25 printer. It feeds just fine and does not rip up the paper. I have my settings saved as far as the way it prints. The only thing I have problems with is the warning box that keeps appering up on my screen at odd times to let me know I'm low on color ink, and the fact that Ink is hard to find for this printer. If anyone can help me here I would be greatful.

Colour is a little harder i believe because there are 3 ink wells to find. it is a great little printer and fairly economical once you know how to refill :-)

2.0 out of 5 stars Brand new printer - no black ink & no USB Cable, December 14, 2002

I can't believe that a brand new printer does not come with BLACK ink. I called the customer service. They said you had to buy it separately. A very bad impersion to start. Think before you make an order.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jams, smears, crawls at 6 min. per page. What's not to like?, December 28, 2003
This review is from: Lexmark Z25 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
This is my second Lexmark. I would never buy another. I only bought this second one because it was being sold at a fundraiser for my sister-in-law's chorus. It was brand new. First thing is that Consumer Reports wrote that the Lexmark ink is the most expensive of all the printer mfgrs.

I'm printing a Christmas newsletter on it. Gripe 1: The side with 6 pictures takes six minutes to print. Gripe 2: The black ink was half used after 40 pages! (This poor speed and ink performance is nowhere close to the specs Lexmark provides.) Gripe 3: The worse thing is that just like with my old Lexmark, the feed mechanism grabs unevenly, and the paper gets jammed. Or it doesn't grab at all. Gripe 4: After a major jam, it smeared ink on the backs of the next 10 pages, wasting lots of expensive paper and ink before I noticed it.

I have to babysit this thing. I hate it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Performer, July 17, 2003

This is one of the worst printers you can buy. It runs out of ink very fast and cartridges cost more than the printer at about $30 per pop for a black one. The paper always gets fed in too fast and becomes slanted and jams. It is horrendous. Spend more for a high-quality HP printer . It is definately worth more than working with this peice of junk!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Immediate Problems, January 13, 2003

The printer feeds paper inconsistently; the print is always crooked because of the uneven feed. You can not print any text with the lower quality of print because the text is garbled. I will return this printer, but unfortunately will be stuck with the ink cartridge that had to be purchased seperately.....

A printer doesn't use standard printer cable, and doesn't come with the who-knows-what non-standard USB cable. Just go get any other printer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printing, July 27, 2009
By
This review is from: Lexmark Z25 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
The Z25 and Z35 are low-end printers designed for use at home. They use a USB cable to connect to a computer running Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP after you install the software from the CD. You must select CANCEL when the OS detects the connected printer and only use the CD software. The 24 page manual explains the proper method to set up this printer. You connect the modular power supply, the USB cable, install the print cartridges (#26 tricolor, #16 black) into the color-coded receptacles (light green for tricolor, dark green for black), then load the plain paper on the top and extend the paper exit tray. The printer software is installed last. Run the SETUP program to install the software (if it doesn't start automatically). Follow the instructions on the monitor screen. Print an alignment page so the tricolor and black cartridges will be properly aligned. This printer will work when either or both cartridges are installed. You can customize the printer settings in "Print Properties". Various sized paper can be used in portrait or landscape mode. When installing the printer you may have to create a USB Virtual printer port if another printer was previously defined (not for printers connected to a parallel port). Like other Lexmark printers the paper follows a shallow curve in printing.

The Lexmark Solutions Center will guide you in printing photos, envelopes, banners, etc. It will help to solve printing problems. A blinking paper feed light may result in an error message on your screen. Page 11 offers suggestions to follow when there is a problem. There are pages for Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2 and Mac OS X version 10.0.3 to 10.1. Page 20 tells how to contact Lexmark. The Index to topics is on pages 19 and 20. Other manuals warn against setting up a printer during an electrical storm, or removing the inkjet cartridges except to replace or clean them. This printer has a modular plug-in power supply with an attached power cord. [Does this make it run warmer?]

The audio response will tell you what to do if there is a problem. A right click on the "Lexmark Z25-Z35" icon will allow you to choose the Lexmark Solution Center for various options. You can select the alignment tool to fix blurry edges, print a test page, or install a new print cartridge. This is one of the least expensive printers and a bargain when bought used for light duty printing. You may find a better printer at a higher price. Shutting down the computer turns the printer off, applying power turns it on.
[I found the indicator for ink levels wasn't correct for the used tricolor cartridge when the printer was installed on another computer.]

1.0 out of 5 stars Such a disappointment, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Lexmark Z25 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I cannot BELIEVE that they didn't include a printer cable in the box with this "printer." The box and documentation were very misleading about this slap to the consumer's face. I am about to turn around and return it and pick up the HP I should have bought in the first place. Lexmark has ruined their reputation with me forever.
