Dell Computers did their homework regarding this printer.,
By
This review is from: Lexmark Z35 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I got this printer with my new Dell Desktop 4550. They included it with the package and knowing Dell they did the homework on the machine prior to making it the printer of choice. It is good for the money. Fast for an inexpensive printer and the color is solid and good. The paper feed is simple and doesn't jam, Yeah! The printer is quiet in comparison with the old HP that it replaced. If I had one gripe, it is regarding the default properties on the printer setting. The setting is locked on "normal print" (using more ink) and each time I want "quick print" (faster, less ink) I have to go in and reset the printer settings Other than that I would recommend this unit and, for the price, it is a very good printer.

Another bad experience here,

This model may be fine in constant use (i.e. printing every day and buying fresh ink cartridges often), but it's been a total disappointment here. Quality was fine at first, but I only need to print a few pages - letters, drawings, reports, etc. - occasionally, and after ~3 weeks with no use, I discovered that the still-80%-full black cartridge had become clogged beyond repair. Even after paying $20 for a brand new cartridge, going through the alignment procedure, and wasting at least 4 dozen pages of paper running cleaning cycles, the 14-month-old Z35 will now print only in faint gray stripes. It is, for all intents and purposes, totally useless. The printer's original price seemed like a great deal, but it ended up costing me ~$1 per page!I worked all week on some documentation and artwork that was to accompany a birthday gift to my daughter in two days, and have spent this entire day trying to print the pages. (Yes, I was a fool to wait until today... but I'm a Mac user - I'm used to things just working!) I'm not usually one to fly off the handle, as the old saying goes, but at the moment I'm relishing the thought that the blasted thing WILL be flying over the railing as soon as I wake up in the morning. (The ONLY reason I'm waiting tonight is that I want to enjoy the sight of it hitting the concrete downstairs.) Bottom line: If you only need to print a page or two a week, or ever go for more than a couple weeks between print jobs, I recommend avoiding this one like the plague.

These machines are a piece of JUNK! I have two both barely three months old. One prints 10 pages and stops. The only way to get it to print again is to uninstall and reinstall. The second machine just up and shorted out for no reason. Paper jams, poor printing......the list goes on. I replaced them with a new LExmark and they refused now to even give you USB, Serial or power cords. GIVE LEXMARK A PASS!!!

Floating boat anchor,

This product is a total piece of junk. Lexmark should be embarrassed to put this product on the market. The paper feed is always pulling the paper to the side so it jams constantly unless you physically walk over and hold the paper aligned properly and it sucks ink faster than New York skid row bum sucks thunderbird wine. It's as worthless as a floating boat anchor. I wish Amazon had a zero star rating.

The Z25 and Z35 are low-end printers designed for use at home. They use a USB cable to connect to a computer running Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP after you install the software from the CD. You must select CANCEL when the OS detects the connected printer and only use the CD software. The 24 page manual explains the proper method to set up this printer. You connect the modular power supply, the USB cable, install the print cartridges (#26 tricolor, #16 black) into the color-coded receptacles (light green for tricolor, dark green for black), then load the plain paper on the top and extend the paper exit tray. The printer software is installed last. Run the SETUP program to install the software (if it doesn't start automatically). Follow the instructions on the monitor screen. Print an alignment page so the tricolor and black cartridges will be properly aligned. This printer will work when either or both cartridges are installed. You can customize the printer settings in "Print Properties". Various sized paper can be used in portrait or landscape mode. When installing the printer you may have to create a USB Virtual printer port if another printer was previously defined (not for printers connected to a parallel port). Like other Lexmark printers the paper follows a shallow curve in printing. The Lexmark Solutions Center will guide you in printing photos, envelopes, banners, etc. It will help to solve printing problems. A blinking paper feed light may result in an error message on your screen. Page 11 offers suggestions to follow when there is a problem. There are pages for Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2 and Mac OS X version 10.0.3 to 10.1. Page 20 tells how to contact Lexmark. The Index to topics is on pages 19 and 20. Other manuals warn against setting up a printer during an electrical storm, or removing the inkjet cartridges except to replace or clean them. This printer has a modular plug-in power supply with an attached power cord. [Does this make it run warmer?] The audio response will tell you what to do if there is a problem. A right click on the "Lexmark Z25-Z35" icon will allow you to choose the Lexmark Solution Center for various options. You can select the alignment tool to fix blurry edges, print a test page, or install a new print cartridge. This is one of the least expensive printers and a bargain when bought used for light duty printing. You may find a better printer at a higher price. Shutting down the computer turns the printer off, applying power turns it on. [I found the indicator for ink levels wasn't correct for the used tricolor cartridge when the printer was installed on another computer.]

Very bad experience,

I got a brand new Lexmark Z35 a couple of weeks ago. This is my first printer. I am astonished by its bad performance. The print speed is so slow, almost 1 minute to print a single page. The black toner seems does not work, it can not print any black signs or letters on paper.

Piece of Junk,

Same as "An Electronics Fan". Occasionally prints a document. On those occasions where it does not, it won't let you delete the failed document from the print queue. It says it's deleted, but when further attempts are made to print other documents, the print jobs just fill up in the queue, waiting for the first job to complete. The only way to clear the printer queue is to reboot. But there's another problem. The document that was holding up the queue gets printed during the reboot process. That's wasted paper, since by that time you no longer need the printout after having spent more than a few minutes deciding that you don't really need it (eg., maps from mapquest).I've forgotten about failed print jobs only to find that when I rebooted my machine days later, the printout came out. This is a piece of junk. Perhaps there will be a software upgrade, if that is indeed the problem.

I'm currently shopping for a replacement my Z35 printer. It is junk. The first one fed paper in crooked every time, so I exchanged and the second one does the very same thing. Now it says it is out of paper when it isn't. The print quality is mediocre at best, the color reproduction isn't very accurate (using Pantone color references) and the toner is fairly expensive. Recently I have had two genuine Lexmark printer cartridges fail (very poor print quality). I won't buy annother Lexmark product, you shouldn't either.
