This game is truly fun for all. It is intellectually stimulating, yet not as intimidating as other vocabulary games such as scrabble. The alternate playing rules allow people with different vocabularies to play together. The game was very easy to figure out. My friends and I played for about an hour and had a great time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game combining vocabulary, spelling and chance, August 6, 2005

Lexogon has now become my favorite game - I've played it with family and friends many times. Game play is very straightforward and the materials and play tokens are top-notch. Because there are two "decks" of clues - one Intermediate difficulty and one Standard - I can play this game with younger kids and adults of varying skill level. It's really like buying 2 games in 1.

The only drawback to playing this game is that I realized how terrible my vocabulary is! I figure a few months of playing this game will help.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flexmotron!, September 26, 2005

Lexogon has turned out to be a great game. A friend bought it for me as a gift because I'm a board game player, in general. I hadn't heard of it, but enjoyed it straight away. My girlfriend and I played with another couple and we all had a blast.

As the other reviews stated, it's an easy game to learn. You're up and running in no time. More than that, it's a lot more fun than I thought a word game would be. The rules about how you choose your words make it a lot of fun, and really equalize different vocab levels.

I would think Lexogon could be played and enjoyed by anyone reading age and up. You end up exposing yourself to a lot of words, and it affects the way you think about the language. Most importantly, of course, it makes for a good time. We've played in groups of 3 and up to groups of 9 or 10. There is a great energy surrounding the game and people whisper and then yell and get into the competition.

I recommend it!

Our family owns too many boardgames, so we didn't think there were a lot left on the market that would be different from what we currently play. After hours of research and reviews, I decided to order this game.

To put it simply, Lexagon is FUN!!!! It is the perfect combination of spelling skills, luck of the draw and strategy. My family does not like playing word games (Scrabble, Take Four) with me because I ALWAYS beat them and every one else who goes up against me. They thought for sure I was going to take them down in Lexagon. However, with the luck of the draw and strategy elements of this game, my teen-aged daughter "whooped" me. She was so excited when she won that she insisted we play all over again.

The rules to this game are very easy to follow. There are two sets of skill level cards in Lexagon, so if there's a player whose spelling or word knowledge isn't quite advanced, then he/she can use the easier cards. We tried the easy cards first and had to switch 15 minutes into the game because they were TOO easy.

Lexagon comes with a "cheat" book, providing some answers to the clues. The game board and accessories are high quality, though we found it easier to use our own timer that beeps rather than the two (2)old-fashioned sand timers that were provided.

Lastly, we have always used games to help our children enchance their spelling and math skills. There were a few words my husband and I used as answers in Lexagon that my daughter didn't know, so she went and looked them up on her own. Lexagon is one of those games that provides a lot of entertainment, but can also be used as a learning tool that the kids will love.

We DEFINITELY recommend Lexagon to all game lovers out there!

We played this game at a friends house. We HAD to buy it!! LOVE it - it's great for those who enjoy word games. It also comes in 2 levels of play to make it more versatile for all family members.
