5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for all leathers
My favorite leather leash came from Germany. It is almost 20 years old, has been left in the rain repeatedly (by accident! hey, I have kids!) and I have been using Lexol forever.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the "Neatsfoot Oil" of my younger days...
If you're like me, you value your leather products and want to see them last. As a kid growing up, I was taught to keep my baseball mitt oiled with Neatsfoot Oil to keep the leather from drying out and becoming ruined. That mitt is now over 30 years old and still looks great. Whether it's a baseball mitt or belts, shoes, boots or a leather jacket, the old Neatsfoot Oil...

My Mephisto shoes keep supple and water resistant, and I use Lexol on all leathers; from my leather covered Bibles, to shoes, boots, and even my Swiss Army watchband! It preserves leather, cleans it, repairs cracks, and keeps leather strong.

I love quality leather and condition everything I own with Lexol products. ***** star product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Leather cleaner and conditioner, November 13, 2009
After breeding and showing Quarterhorses for over 25 years, I have found this to be the best product for cleaning and conditioning leather, i.e. saddles and bridles, etc. I also have used it on my leather chairs and sofas for most of that period. It is the best product for that purpose. I tried many other products over the years but I have always returned to this one for the best and consistent results.

5.0 out of 5 stars softens and protects, January 4, 2011

This review is from: Lexol 1412 nF Neatsfoot Leather Conditioner 33.8 oz. (1 Liter) (Misc.)
I have previously used other Lexol products as well as leather conditioners from other brands, however this is by far the best one in terms of softening and protecting leather. I tried it first on a low quality leather jacket that's seen its fair share of downpours. Before I applied the neatsfoot lotion, the leather was a bit stiff, rough and crinkled a little like wax paper. After cleaning I applied a liberal amount of neatsfoot using an applicator sponge and allowed it to soak in for 4-6 hours. Then I wiped of the extra with a damp towel. This product not only softened the leather but also seemed to give it some more vitality and body. The surface is much smoother now and feels like much higher quality leather. Following this success I applied it to several shoes and found similarly positive results.

In comparison to Lexol's other leather conditioner, this product seems to penetrate deeper while leaving less residue. It more than noticeably improves the texture and softness of leather, whereas the other product's "conditioning" was barely noticeable. This means that it's great for applications where added softness and suppleness are desired, however on stiffer dress shoes (and possibly handbags) this product might make the leather too soft and prone to wrinkling around bending points. It also takes upward of a day to "dry", or get fully absorbed.

I love this product and highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Mercedes seats LOVE this stuff!, December 20, 2010
This review is from: Lexol 1412 nF Neatsfoot Leather Conditioner 33.8 oz. (1 Liter) (Misc.)
I overpaid way too much for my wife's Mercedes to not take care of the leather seats properly. Growing up in horse country, I saw saddles used HARD for years that looked great because the saddle makers told us to use this. My Dentist used this every 4 months on his leather seats for 29 years and the leather NEVER cracked or needed repair-this is cheap insurance against a $500 seat repair bill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent leather softener, October 2, 2010

When it comes to restoring dried/cracked/worn leather, neatsfoot oil has always been one of the better treatments. With a gotcha. Traditional neatsfoot is, well, an oil and pretty messy. As in little pools remain in the cracks on car seats and stain your jeans when you sit in them hours later.

Lexol has solved that problem with a water soluble version of neatsfoot. It may not be quite as good as greasy original neatsfoot, but its pretty darn good at restoring worn leather car seats. Lets say 90% of the restoring ability of original oil, but far less hassle. If you use all three Lexol products (cleaner, then neatfoot while still wet, finally conditioner the next day) you will be quite pleased with the results.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the "Neatsfoot Oil" of my younger days..., May 21, 2011

This review is from: Lexol 1412 nF Neatsfoot Leather Conditioner 33.8 oz. (1 Liter) (Misc.)
If you're like me, you value your leather products and want to see them last. As a kid growing up, I was taught to keep my baseball mitt oiled with Neatsfoot Oil to keep the leather from drying out and becoming ruined. That mitt is now over 30 years old and still looks great. Whether it's a baseball mitt or belts, shoes, boots or a leather jacket, the old Neatsfoot Oil was the best as keeping the leather conditioned and supple.

This product from Lexol has the Neatsfoot name on it, but it isn't quite the same. It seems to work (so far) but it clearly isn't the same product that I grew up using. It appears to be more like the greasy Lexol leather conditioner that has been around for 20 or so years. Oh well, since the original Neatsfoot Oil doesn't appear to be around any more, I guess this will have to do.

UPDATE, 07/20/2011: I found something much closer to the original Neatsfoot Oil I used 30+ years ago. Fiebing's Prime Neatsfoot Oil Compound is the REAL DEAL. I ordered a gallon of it from Blain's Farm and Fleet [...] at a great price. I used it on a Springfield Armory leather rifle sling after having tried over and over to salvage the sling using the Lexol. The Fiebing's Neatsfoot Oil immediately brought that leather sling back to life and softened it so it will not crack in use. If you want Lexol, buy this stuff. If you want Neatsfoot Oil, buy Fiebing's Prime Neatsfoot Oil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use Neatsfoot on your leather, August 20, 2009
I used this on an old Coach purse that someone gave me. It brought the dull leather to life and now I have a good looking Coach purse! We've also used it on boots and it does an equally good job. Thanks Lexol.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good for saddles, January 13, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this product because of Lexol's claim that it wouldn't darken leather. It did darken the leather a bit, but that is not why I gave it one star. I put it on a high quality vintage saddle that I have owned since it was new. I had cleaned the saddle w Lexol cleaner. I tried a test spot of this stuff on the saddle and it just sat ontop of the leather. I knew the saddle needed oiling since I am the sole owner. Just to make absolutely sure the saddle simply didn't need oiling...I put "leather new" oil on another area and it soaked right in. After leather is cleaned and dried...it should accept oil. This stuff reminds me more of a lacquer. I have had good luck w other Lexol products...this one is a dud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does a good job softening new leather, September 16, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
But be careful if you are using it on newly dyed leather. I used it on a fresh dyed, but completely dry, piece of veg-tanned leather with contrasting stitching, and it caused the dye to bleed out and discolor the stitching a little. Next time I will use the oil to soften the leather before I do the stitch work.

Overall, it's a good product. Veg-tanned leather can get stiff when you dye it and this product does a good job of softening it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cleans very well!, September 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We finally got away from fabric couches to these nice white leather set from Ikea. I have been looking around for the best leather cleaner out there and a number of sites and leather outfits recommended the Lexol brand. I found this one for lighter color leather applications and it has work extremely well. We clean these couches once a month and it leaves the cleaning cloth completely soiled. We are quite surprised with how much grudge this product can pick up.
