CENTRAL AMERICAN STRUGGLE,
By
This review is from: Leyenda: 15 Exitos (Audio CD)
For anyone who grew up in any part of Guatemala thru Nicaragua, they know the taste of a cruel meaningless war. In the mid 80's the worst years of Central American history, Costa Rica was receiving plenty refugees & had battle with foreing capital to keep on investing in a country so close to a cruel war, Nicaragua has fallen into the revolution, Honduras could keep it's people tame but with strong militar regimen, El Salvador was broken by a bitter war within connationals, and Guatemala was struggling with more than 20 years of internal guerrilla and millions refugees emigrated to Mexico with towns been entirely destroyed and more than 250,000 people killed(You don't have to look all the way to Rwanda to find a cruel war so near), but from this last one came a group call ALUX NAHUAL, a group that took all natural social fights and turn it into music, even playing happy song, but with a melancolic bitter taste of the reality of a very complex region of America. If you listen to any music made by this Guatemalan rock band, you will listen a story about the true living of all centralamericans, this music move masses in the 80's and 90's and define the generation of niños de la guerra(children of the war), that knows that freedrom is extremley precious.

Worth It for Any Fan of Latin Rock,
By Kelly (Washington, D.C. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leyenda: 15 Exitos (Audio CD)
I lived in Central America back in the 80s, when Alux got most of its airplay. At the time, it shared time with other latin groups, such as Mecano and Hombres G, and Alux definitely held its own. I would best describe the band as the U2 of Central America due to the social commentary of most of their songs. I recommend this album to anyone that likes classic rock, and if you like Spanish Rock, don't miss out on this very good band.

Magnificent,
This review is from: Leyenda: 15 Exitos (Audio CD)
Leyenda represents a compendium of the very best songs of Alux Nahual. Alux was not just a great "nova trova" group in Central america during the late 80s, early 90s... their music with the wonderful melodies and powerful lyrics were symbol and definition for a generation of Central Americans looking for identity and reconciliation on a land living in war.If you only want to buy a disc from Alux, this is the one. Classics like "Hombres del Maiz", "Alto al Fuego", "Centroamérica" and "La Fábula del Grillo y el Mar" are included. If you want anotehr disc I can recommend Antología #1 y Antología #2.

The very best of Alux Nahual,
By Alux fan (Guatemala City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leyenda: 15 Exitos (Audio CD)
Well friends, this is the compilation of the best Guatemala's rock band ever. The new versions of some pieces recorded for this album make the sound fresh and modern. All Alux albums are very good, but this and Americamorfosis are the best in performance and recording quality. A "must have" for the fans of Guatemala's rock.

Aqui Esta Tu Tierra,
By
This review is from: Leyenda: 15 Exitos (Audio CD)
Leyenda 15 Hits is one of the most extraordinary albums created in rock history. Contains 15 excellent songs that will make you feel happy, melancolic and sad sometimes. Its quality is one of the highest, sound music and lyrics. Songs such as "Mujer", "Dime Que Has Olvidado" y "De La Noche a La Mañana" shows the power that Alux Nahual has to create excellent ballads."Aqui esta tu tierra" tries to remind us that this is still your country(Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, ect) so don't forget your roots and remember that you are welcome anytime. "Alto Al Fuego", is a song that I believe was written to tell governments in Central America that young people don't want war, we want peace and work. "Como Un Duende" is about some of the realities in our central america, poor children looking for food in garbage bins, sleeping in the streets, without childhood and paper dreams. "Con Tus Manos" is a song of hope which encourage you to achieve whatever and With your hands you can make it. "Hombres de Maiz" is a Rock Anthem that is grateful of all natural gifts received from mother earth. Men of Corn that have flowers for free wrapped in fresh air in the evening, stars at night, mist in the morning, wheat and wool shrubs, beds in the grass, lights in the sky, gods of wind and fire and they believe in them. "La Fabula del Grillo y El Mar" is a cricket tale that tells you how a cricket was encouraged by other animals in the woods to sing to something bigger than the bush, they ask the cricket why not to sing to The Sea? He followed the advise and started rehearsing and then went to sing to the Sea and sang and sang until he finished without voice, like sometimes happen to me, because sometimes I am the cricket of the tale, Guess Who is The Sea?. "Conquista", is a song that tells about the cruelty suffered by our ancestors in the hand of the spaniards and how we are still alive. "Centroamerica" tells how the international media show the world about our countries(bad image) to create an excuse to sell us weapons and military advise, however Alux Nahual encourage Central American people not to cry and to make this countries to lift the fly to peace(Excellent message)."Toca Viejo" is a trip to those plazas in the streets where these old musicians are playing the regional instruments(Marimba) and alux nahual encourage them to keep playing. In the end, what else can I say, I had the opportunity to see them live in "El Correpatin" in San Salvador and I still feel the notes in my veins, they were an extraordinary Band, they played many of their songs plus, some Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc. It was an unforgettable night, Thanks to Radio Femenina in El Salvador for organising those concerts "El Concierto del Juguete" (Toy Concert). Excelelnt album. |
