4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Indeed, but...
I've always been and always will be a huge fan of Selena. It was in late 2009, I was hearing rumors of a new box set coming out with unreleased demos from the Dreaming of You sessions in 1995. Also, unreleased Spanish songs. The track listing for this box set was released in January of this year and I was a little disappointed.

Again, we have All the songs that...

To the folks that reviewed this product, thank you... I had a suspicion that this was yet another "greatest hits" that is merely put in a beautiful package; I see that I was not wrong.
The only thing I'll say that my fellow reviewers didn't is that, if you are unfamiliar with Selena's music, this would probably be a good investment for you. You get the full range of...

Again, we have All the songs that have been released time and time before. Yes, I do love these songs but again they decided to package the same material. Yes I do love the nice booklet, the cover of this album, and locket that comes with it. But again, its all the same songs. Disc 1, covers all of Selena's well known Spanish hits, "Amor Prohibido", "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", "Como La Flor", etc.

Disc 2 covers mostly Selena's Tejano & Rancheras, "No Me Queda Mas", "Ven Conmigo", "Ya Ves" etc. I have all of these songs from the original studio albums and previous greatest hits packages.

Disc 3 covers all of Selena's English songs. "I Could Fall In Love", "Dreaming of You", "Missing My Baby" etc., Again!, I have all of these songs already.

Lastly, Disc 4 covers "Live" versions of the songs. I wouldn't get to excited, these "live" versions are from the previous albums, her 1993 Grammy Winning "Selena Live", and 2001 "Live, The Last Concert".

I just don't get it, they could have included a bonus dvd with rare concert footage of Selena from 1995. I would love to see her actual final performance, which was on March 19th,1995. Also, all the rare interviews she has given and maybe add her Coca-Cola commercials in there. But all we get is the same songs that they have released over and over and over again. If you already own, "All My Hits Part 1 & 2", "Ones", "Unforgettable - Ultimate Collection", or the "Selena Anthology". I wouldn't bother with this one. But I am a die hard fan, who must collect everything.

On the positive note, All the songs are here from our queen and they are all remastered. Maybe for the 2011 anniversary, they will release something that we have not heard before. We Miss You Selena, 15 years later and your still the best!

3.0 out of 5 stars How did I already know?, April 12, 2010
This review is from: La Leyenda (4 Disc box) (Audio CD)
To the folks that reviewed this product, thank you... I had a suspicion that this was yet another "greatest hits" that is merely put in a beautiful package; I see that I was not wrong.

The only thing I'll say that my fellow reviewers didn't is that, if you are unfamiliar with Selena's music, this would probably be a good investment for you. You get the full range of the spectrum here, starting with the pop-flavored Tejano rancheras that made her a favorite in the late 80s/early 90s and the cumbias that took her out of Texas, as well as the English tracks that tragically continue to show us that, had she lived, Selena would have been HUGE across the board.

However, if you're a fan that has the complete Selena collection (or close to it), then you're better off waiting until some actual unreleased material comes out.

4.0 out of 5 stars should give us more than we already have..., March 14, 2010

As a huge Selena fan, i feel that they should have put more effort into this collection to give it a new twist. Even though I like the colors and the designs of the box, it's pretty much similar to the Anthology and the Unforgettable collection. Instead of releasing just the same material year after year, give us something different that we have never heard before. Just like what the people did to Michael's Ultimate Collection cd, they should add unreleased songs and demos. Include any footages or rare interviews or even spoken rare facts on Selena. Make this collection more worthy to buy...it's been 15 years so this marks another milestone. They should have really done something BIG with this collection...for old time fans and new ones!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! BUT, no demos yet., March 12, 2010

I was also sad that there were no Dreaming Of You demos as was said a year ago. I also know that there is probably around 10 takes of Como La Flor and all the songs that became hits! Also alot of Promo Remixes just for radio play to promote Dreaming Of You Album. "AND" the biggest hidden video of all - El Toro Relajo! The whole video was shot for Don Juan DeMarco and Behind the Scene!!! Also as stated from previous costumer, her last concert shot in Chicago!!! We still have lots of gems from our Princess!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My compilation idea., February 19, 2012
By
This review is from: La Leyenda (4 Disc box) (Audio CD)
Every couple of years, Capitol Records releases a new compilation album with the same Selena songs in English, and I think fans want something new. I know, Selena died and it is impossible for her to record new material, but I wish Capitol Records would release an album inspired by Selena's English crossover, with versions of her English tracks mixed differently, like Madonna's The Immaculate Collection album, which featured her greatest hits from the '80s remixed by Q-Sound engineers. If a Selena album with slightly remixed, edited or remastered versions of songs like:

- I Could Fall in Love

- Dreaming of You

- Where Did the Feeling Go?

- I'm Getting Used to You

- Is It the Beat?

- Captive Heart

- Only Love

and the original versions of "Missing My Baby," "A Boy Like That," a new version of "Disco Medley," similar to the one used in the live performance scene of the film, Selena, but without the cheering crowd (obviously) and finally, the English version of Selena's vocals in the duet, "God's Child," by David Byrne, I believe would resonate with more of Selena's fans than just the same old songs, re-released without any new changes to them. I have been a Selena fan for my entire life and I have dreamed of an album like this for so long and I really hope most of her fans agree with me. I also hope that Capitol Records sees this someday and releases a compilation album that is similar to the one I've dreamed up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Repackaging, but Can You Blame Them?, March 26, 2011
This review is from: La Leyenda (Audio CD)
15 years after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez's untimely death her family and EMI-Latin worked together to release "La Leyenda", or "The Legend." The Legend, like much of the Selena albums spun out of her father's Q-productions studio, is another compilation album/tribute to the singer's career and memory.

It's easy to complain about being reissued the same product over and over, but when a performer has been dead for 15 years, how much new material is there to produce. While there is a demand for remix albums and new live recordings it is and always will be the same songs in a different packaging. I find the packaging of La Leyenda heartfelt and as meaningful as a celebration/compilation could be. It celebrates the fans and the singer and brings them together 15 years after Selena's passing.

If you already own many Selena albums/compilations you will find no new material here. If you're a collector, this album will stand as a testament to Selena's fans 15 years after her murder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Selena Box Set Ever!!!!, February 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: La Leyenda (4 Disc box) (Audio CD)
Most Selena Fans may have all of the songs Selena ever recorded, but what they dont have is all of her Cds and Box sets! Im a die hard Selena fan and I will get every album dealing with Selena! I truly recomend this album because it basically has all her songs from her albums (Selena, Ven Conmigo, Entre A Mi Mundo, Live!, Amor Prohibido, Dreaming of You, the Soundtrack, and Live The last concert). You will love this Box set. It also includes a Selena charm and a little booklet with "rare" pictures of Selena. There not really rare but who cares, its Selena! I bought the Deluxe 82 song "La Leyenda". I truly think if your new to Selena's Music the DigiPak is a good starter or if you want the whole deal then Deluxe is the best way to go. Youll expireance Cumbia hits such as La Carcacha, Como La Flor, No debes Jugar, etc. Tejano hits such as Las Cadenas, Ya Ves, Contigo quiero Estar, etc. Spanish pop hits such as Enamorada De Ti, Amame, No Quiero Saber, Sukiyaki, etc. English hits such as I could Fall in Love, Dreaming of You, Is it the Beat, Captive Heart, etc. Disco Medley and other Live performances such as Como La Flor, Baila Esta Cumbia, Amor Prohibido, Ya Ves and many more hits performed. This is a wonderfull box set to have of our Queen....SELENA!
