This is a work full of original ideas and wonderful sounds. The first three movements have both a South American and Oriental flavor. Ms. Frank writes in an original style which is very lyrical. LEYENDAS includes driven melodies, beautiful colors and occasionally almost surreal sounds. This is an exceptional performance by the Chiara String Quartet who sometimes sound like a Peruvian flute ensemble and sometimes like a guitar quartet plus percussion.
