Product Description

A chain breaker is one of those tools that you just kind of take for granted. You can get away with an attachment on a multi-tool, but once you've used a precise, shop-quality chain breaker you won't want to go back. A well-designed, comfortable chain tool like the Lezyne Chain Drive can make all the difference between a smooth, well-executed adjustment and a drawn-out frustrating mess. After all, those multi-tool attachments were made to be used during your ride as a last-ditch, ride-or-walk quick fix. Precise adjustments should be left to a shop-quality instrument. The Lezyne Chain Drive Tool is tough. The forged steel body is CNC-machined to tight tolerances for accuracy. The body is contoured to feel comfortable in your hands. Lezyne even integrated two Mavic splined and two square spoke wrenches into the body for a little extra versatility. The breaker pin can be replaced in the unlikely event of a break, and Lezyne even had the foresight to include a spare just in case. The Lezyne Chain Drive Tool is compatible with nine or ten speed chains and can be used for adjustment of wheels equipped with Mavic splined or standard square spoke nipples.

Customer Reviews

Great design and seems to be sturdy so far!

Doesn't matter if that cyclist is using the Shimano pins (which needs this no doubt) or the SRAM/KMC chain links which is very convenient.

No regrets on this purchase - give yourself a break and buy one!

Lezyne has taken tool making to a new level. There tools in some cases are almost works of art and exude the highest quality. Having broken 2 Park CT3 chain breakers, I was not about to get a third so I purchased this one. It is smaller, lighter, very attractive, and just as effective as the Park model. I am evolving away from Park tools to the higher quality of Lezyne.

I decided to pay a little higher price over the $5 version that doesn't seem working for many and I am glad I chose the right one. The stool is small and well built. I am just a little bit disappointed that the pin does go down straight but it is not so off the center to become not workable. Before working on the new chain, I practiced disconnecting and reconnecting with the old chain and it's so simple and easy. For those who needs to remove a few links, try to take out one link first so you know how it works and feel comfortable especially if you need to keep the pin in-place, in case you don't have the master link.
The hidden built in poke wrench is super nice. I was able to adjust my wife bike's rim so it rolls straight and evenly through the break pads.

Tip: When I reconnected the links together, I noticed the links at that point is rigid. I also made sure the pin ends are equally exposed on both sides but didn't help. From further observation, when pushing the pin to connect the chain, the outer link pieces were pushed together and caused friction. The final adjustment is to hang the outer link piece on the top deck the tool and push the pin down a bit further to open the gap. You need to repeat on both sides. I also uploaded the pictures to illustrate my point.

10/6/2014: it seems that Amazon doesn't allow to upload pictures anymore.

This is the first time I have broken the shearing pin on a chain puller. The Lezyne is ok, but you have to be careful with it. I have been breaking chains apart since the 70's and even though I have gone to the KMC missing link on most of my bikes, I still have a few with regular chains. I bought this in May 2013 and have broken about five chains with it. It worked great until I tried to replace the chain on my wife's old Raleigh Super Course (1976) which we keep on a trainer. The breaking pin sheared off below the screw bolt head. It came with an extra pin, so I tried using an appropriate size extractor to screw the broken one out but it would not catch and then tried drilling it out, but I started hitting the side threads so I gave up. I am buying another brand to have for the times I need a puller and a KMC chain to put on her bike. I will probably buy another Lezyne product, but only after enough time has passed that I forget about this issue.

The title says it all. Light weight, with a good feel to it. No issue backing out the pin or re-seating it.

I've used this to work on chains for both my bikes. It is easy to use and perfect. It is also small enough to stuff in a flat kit. For most non-shop work, this is ample.

Just got the tool today. Ordered it as part of a drive train upgrade to my entry-level road bike that involved changing the cassette (to Shimano HG50), the crankset (to Shimano Claris), the bottom bracket (to Shimano Octalink), and the chain (to KMC x8.99).

Had to remove five links from the KMC chain. Put the chain in the Lezyne 8/9/10 tool, and found that the roller wouldn't drop far enough to center the tool on the pin. After multiple tries, I pulled out a Dremel motor and buzzed off the tips of the roller detents on the tool. The roller seated all the way down, and I was finally able to push the pin through and break the chain. Drive train upgrade completed.

The tool got thrown in with the other specialty bike tools I've had to get, but I can't say I would recommend it. It's light, yeah, and I can now use it because it was easy to grind to shape, but a tool that works right out of the package would have been nice. I'll keep it around because I'm not a pro mechanic and I may need it in about 2500 miles.

I'm used to cheap chain tools and multi-tools, and can't believe I waited this long to buy a respectable chain tool. It's so small and light you could take it touring, but it's strong and precise enough you'll enjoy using it at home.

Well worth the money. I wish I had this tool back in the 80's and 90's. It would have saved me hours....
