Durable and eye-catching, but not for everyone...,

This review is from: Lg Vx8100 Verizon Cell Phone (Electronics)
I've had this phone for over 2 years. It may be stylish and touted as a music phone, but really, music is the last thing you want this phone for. It's excellent at being a -phone-: contacts, ringtones, calendar and TXT are easy to navigate. Otherwise, you'll have to compromise with the phone to get what you want.
INTERNAL FEATURES REVIEW: The only way to get music and customizable ringtones are to DL them through Verizon; or to buy a data cable and hack the internal memory with PC apps, which takes a bit of work. As for Bluetooth, this feature is a joke. While you're able to connect to headsets, and even other phones, you are unable to transfer files wirelessly between them. This phone is Vcast enabled which is very cool, but also completely useless in 2 situations: if 1) you don't subscribe to Vcast, or 2) you are in a remote area with only extended coverage (roaming). The phone has some quirks like voice command and audio recorder, but most newer phones do, too. For anything sound-wise, there are 4 possible folders: My Ringtones, My Music, My Sounds, and My MP3s (shows up when you enable MP3s under Services after entering the 6-digit code). My Sounds are useless. You can play or record short clips and that's it. My MP3s is best for utilizing the media player, and My Music is very sketchy - sometimes songs work, sometimes they don't - sometimes they just cut off. My Ringtones has an annoying feature wherein you can't delete prepackaged tones (which are -horrible-). There are a total of 27MB of internal memory and 6.27MB of internal RAM, with an unevenly divided amount allocated between features- PIX/FLIX, 4MB; and Ringtone, 2.02MB. Vcast and apps take up the most memory and will depend on what you DL. I store everything on external memory, speaking of which... EXTERNAL FEATURES REVIEW: External memory is in the form of MiniSD - which has now been replaced by MicroSD, so there is an external memory compatibility issue between the VX8100 and newer phones, such as the Chocolate. The phone looks cool with music player buttons on the front, but they're generally useless. The camera is nothing special at 1.3MP, though it does have flash and a relatively quick shutter speed. The camera is a bit awkward- it has no mirror and the only way to see yourself in the front screen is to close the phone. It also takes low-quality MPEG movies with a limit of 15 seconds. The phone itself is bulky and heavy, but it is very durable; I drop it on the street/sidewalk all the time and though the casing may suffer for it, the phone still works fine. The audio speakers are very decent when playing music and comes with an adjustable synthesizer. The battery it comes with will probably not last longer than a year or so - you will need to buy a new one at about $50. Also, these batteries have a very short life, lasting 1 or two days at best with minimal usage; the phone also has a quick charge time, however. __RATING__ LOOKS: 4/5 DURABILITY: 5/5 CUSTOMIZABILITY: 1/5 MUSIC: 2/5 TXT/CALLING: 4/5 TOOLS/EXTRAS: 4/5 MAINTENANCE: 3/5 MEMORY: 2/5 --OVERALL-- 3/5 WHO SHOULD BUY: Homemakers, Senior citizens, Non-technical professionals, Students. WHO SHOULD NOT BUY: Business and technical professionals, Music junkies, People who travel a lot, Trekkies.

Here's the thing. The phone has a lot of features that seem out-dated now. Camera is 1.3 megepixel. Not that good. Can only record 15 second vids.
Here's why I like it. 1. It's a music phone. I can only put 1 gigabyte of mp3s into this phone via miniSD. And IT DOES PLAY MP3s. No need to have two items(cellphone and mp3 player) when I go to the gym. (You don't need to pay those over priced mp3s from Verizon. Just get a miniSD, mobilemate or something like it and transfer all your mp3s into the flash disk and place it in your phone. Any questions, look it up or some how send a request.) 2. I can play movies in the phone. Mind you, your playing movies in the phone. It's just an alternative. (did some hacking, not that difficult. Not really hacking, just get a program that can convert your video files into the right video.) Don't know about bluetooth thought, I live in California, so I obligated in using one when I'm in my car. Speakers are great... Then one of speakers becomes broken. I've had two of these and it's always a problem. Also, the Korean battery that comes with them suck. Don't use them. They would hold enegery for long. After a complete charge, it begins to loose energy in minutes. I replaced it with one from an only LG cell phone I had left in my car for months. And it still worked and worked well. Get batteries made from Japan.

The LG VX8100 cell phone is an excellent phone. It has a good hefty feel so you know where it is. It also is silver and blue in color which makes it easy to find. The seller from Amazon gets a 5 star rating because the phone is very good, and the phone was well packaged and arrived promptly. I gave battery 4 stars because I did need to replace it shortly after I got it. It wasn't a problem because I had the old battery from my other phone. The seller would have had no way of knowing the phone's battery was dying because it gives no indications. The battery from my other phone was the second battery I had owned for it. The battery suddenly dies and the phone will not ring in,call out etc. However the battery is easy to find online and is inexpensive. All in all it is an excellent phone and Amazon and the seller were also excellent to de.al with

I knew when i ordered this cell phone that it was refurbished, but id didnt expect it not to work at all. it activated ok but in 3 days it quit working. I called my cell phone provider and we tried everything they knew to get it working and they say it is the phone that is the problem. Now I am out more than 40 dollars for a phone and still dont have a phone. I will never order a cell phone from this seller or from the internet again.

No this phone does not have a key board, you cannot watch TV or use it as a blender. If you want a phone to make that phone call without the battery dying on you this is the one plain and simple.
