This review is from: Libbey 16-Piece Blue Flare Glassware Set (Kitchen)
THIS GLASSWARE, (Libby's 16-piece blue Flare glassware), is HEAVY! This is the only caveat I have on it, (would like to award it 4 and 9/10 stars, but 5 stars is the nearest I can get to)....so you have to be very careful using it. Otherwise............it's SO PERFEECT!I got this glassware as a present. Blue is supposed to relax humans...so I'm glad it's in blue. It does indeed relax me at harried and unharried moments....even if just a tiny bit. If you fill it with water, and let a light shine on the glass, the blue colour of the glass becomes darker....and even more beautiful! More "magic" in these blue glasses is found at their thick bases...which are solid blue glass. The blue here is SO intense, it turns into a beautiful purplish colour...truly enchanting to see, when held up to the light! Doing so is a truly, incredibly wonderful experience-- making one's mind wonder and wander, as it brings to the imagination all sorts of positive possibilties.... (At least, it does this for me!) I have been told that glassware -- or any dishes -- are REALLY clean when they "squeak", and there is a slight tension as one's finger goes down the glass or dish. The amazing thing with this glass is, after you fill the glassware with a "soft" liquid, (ie: nothing more "clinging" to the glass than coffee, tea, or perhaps tomato soup, and, after it is emptied, IMMEDIATELY rise it off with VERY hot water), it seems that 9 times out of 10, you get this "finger-squeak", and do not even have to wash the glass with soap! Of course, one should always wash glasses for obvious sanitary reasons....but if one is pressed for time, it's good to know that this actually can be done, at least temporarily, with these glasses. The glass set consists of eight 17 1/2 ounce "cooler" glasses, and eight 10 1/2 ounce "double old-fashioneds". I find the larger glasses are great for drinking tea, coffee, smoothies, juice, and soup, and that the smaller glasses are good for vegetables, cole-slaw, and other side dishes. It's nice to have bowls, and cups and saucers...but with glassware this beautiful -- and with the larger size holding 17 1/2 ounces -- it really isn't necessary! (Mugs, from which most people drink their coffee or tea -- and often, their soup, as well -- usually don't have saucers anyway...and the thick glass of this Libby Blue Flair glassware insulates hot liquids. Yes, you have to be a bit more careful handling them than you would mugs...(and I do wish they did have handles)...but, if you take extra care, this glassware really can take the place of mugs and bowls! With global warming becoming an ever-more present threat, it's possible that the sun's rays might, eventually, spoil the flavour of drinks, and even soups, served in ordinary clear glassware. This Libby Blue Flair glassware gives a nice protection from possible future sun-damage to anything put inside it. The glassware is also nicely tapered at the bottom, making it easier to hold. This is truly an impressive set of glassware, inside and out, which can serve multiple purposes. At this price, it truly is a bargain....and a beautiful-looking bargain, at that!
