This review is from: Libbey Geo Heavy Base Tumblers, Set of 16 (Kitchen)
Received these glasses from our wedding registry. We choose them because we have children and thought the heavy base would be best to prevent tip overs. During the first year we had been using these glasses, we broke all but 4 (and I'm not holding out hope they will last another 6 months). The glass only needs to be gently tipped over or knocked against another item in the dishwasher and it is cracked or broken.

I bought these glasses because they were inexpensive, while still appearing to be of good quality. A few years back, I bought an expensive set of 16 glasses at Pier One, and almost all of them are now broken because the glass was so thin. I know I'm jinxing myself, but so far, I've had this set for about 6 months and none have broken. They may not have the style of the expensive glasses, but they are much nicer quality, and WAY more affordable. I highly recommend these!

Fragile,

I've broken two of these glasses in less than a month, most recently tonight when I picked up the larger glass full of milk and the entire bottom fell out. The glass I broke previously didn't take much effort either. Be careful with these glasses -- they may look like a substantial glass, but they're very delicate.

I have had them about 4 months now. They tend to break in half when I put them under the ice dispenser of my fridge. So you stand there looking at half a glass wondering where the hell the rest went. Sad yet kind of entertaining in a weird way as you never know when it will happen only that it will. 4 down so far.

This set of glassware is exquisite! The timeless, functional design make this set one that will find a home in my kitchen cupboard for years to come. The solid, heavy base lends a feel of richness -- but at a fraction of the cost of a designer series.

Break Easily,
This review is from: Libbey Geo Heavy Base Tumblers, Set of 16 (Kitchen)
These are nice looking glasses, but they break fairly easily. We've had these glasses for 3-4 months, and in that time about 5 of the tall glasses have broken. They have either broken while being washed by slight banging against other dishes or by being tipped, etc. We have other glasses that have lasted us forever. These just seem to not be durable at all. Especially not recrommended for use with children. We very very rarely use the 8 small glasses. They just take up space.

Bought these as my first set of everyday-use glasses in my first apartment. So far, I've had them for a few days, and I only have good things to say. For 20 dollars, I can't really imagine that you can get a better set than this. I'm surprised by the quality heft the glasses have - the bottoms are heavy and they feel much more expensive than they are. A simple, classy design means that they'll goes well in any kitchen or dining room. I don't imagine they'll survive if I drop one on a floor, but I don't expect that out of my glasses. If handled with reasonable sensitivity, I'm sure these glasses will give you more than your money's worth.
The bottom line: - Simple, classy design. - Great heft; they feel much more expensive than they are. - The price is right. With free shipping, I don't imagine there's a better deal out there. (Speaking of which, they were packed well, and I didn't have problems)

First, for the reviewers complaining that these are fragile ... they're glass. I have broken some - mostly due to my own negligence - rushing to get them in the dishwasher or out of the cupboard. If you have kids, you're probably better off with plastic anyway. Luckily, I don't have kids, so I can have nice grown up things!
What I love about these is the nice thick base along with the thin glass of the upper portion. It makes for a elegant glass that still has a good weight to it. I mostly use the juice glasses to double as rocks glasses which works out well. I have no doubt I'll be getting the same set once I need a new one. We got these at the Libby Glass Outlet in Toledo - so the price was right. Knowing they're affordable to replace makes it less heartbreaking when one shatters.

Great for awhile but dangerous,

I bought this set on September 11, 2008, and my family has really enjoyed it, especially the taller glasses. But in the last week two of the tall glasses have broken in the dishwasher, and today I was about to use a glass when a family member noticed it was cracked and potentially dangerous. I'm going to get rid of all of them, I can't take the risk of hurting myself. Maybe I had a bad batch or something, I'm going to contact the manufacturer.
