These bowls are very nice, solid, thick, clean, and very simple. They're exactly as you'd expect from the image.

However, they are smaller than I imagined. They're 6" wide, and not all that deep, which is not what I wanted. I returned them, but I don't fault the product for that.

If you're looking for a smallish cereal bowl, you'll be happy. If you're looking for a big bowl for some real cereal eating, you'll be hungry.

I was prepared to be impressed when the inner box was opened (they were packed very well) but that did not turn out to be the case. As one reviewer mentioned, they were in fact smaller than expected. The image on the webpage is deceiving. Six inches refers to the outside diameter of the bowl, the walls of which are 3/16 inch thick; so the inside diameter is 5 5/8 inches.

They're fairly shallow with a depth of 2 3/8 inches and a 3 inch diameter base both inside and outside. The total volume to the rim is 25 ounces. Total reasonable usable volume is about 18 ounces.

The class is quite heavy but rather poorly made. Poorly enough apparently that Libbey did not want its name on it. Aside from a sticker written completely in Spanish which calls the product Crisa Libbey (Moderno does not appear) the only intentional markings on the bowls are the raised word Mexico and a one or two digit number following on the base. "Libbey" is nowhere to be found. Just conjecture of course, but wondering if this really is the generic glass bowl for a number of companies, hence the absence of a name.

What is to be found are small pits, scratches, and raised defects in and on the glass. The rims and bottoms however were flawless. The flaws were on the outsides of the bowls. None were found on the eating surfaces and none were of sufficient significance to warrant the return shipping cost. At $2/bowl they're serviceable, although I would not have bought them at any price had I seen them in advance, mostly because of their size.

Beauty and the eye of the beholder and all that. I do not find them attractive. They are thick, dull, small glass bowls. They arrived dirty. That did not help. They did shine up after being cleaned (by hand so the dishwasher detergent would not etch the glass) but were easily scratched and fingerprinted. Questionable quality glass. There would be no mistaking these for Pyrex. Prolonged exposure to some dishwasher detergents may etch the soft glass. A visit to Consumer Reports might be worthwhile.

Have not tried microwaving or sudden temperature changes. Just because it's thick glass does not mean it won't shatter. It's fragile enough to scratch after all.

SUMMARY: Questionable quality small generic glass bowls which carry a Libbey name only until you take the sticker off. Would not buy them again.

These glass bowls are an excellent size for cereal and salads. They are easy to clean in the dishwasher, and they coordinate well with almost any china pattern. They are sturdy and don't tip over easily when brushed by someone's elbow at the breakfast table!

I have always purchased stoneware bowls with a larger diameter. However, when my teenage daughter dropped all but two of our bowls, I needed to replace them quickly. The bowls I usually buy were out of stock at our local Dept store. I found these on Amazon, the price was right and getting a pack of 12 was great (family of two adults and four kids). I "settled" for these even though I didn't like the fact they were clear glass or that they seemed so small. They arrived quick, packed securely. Once I used them, I felt they were actually perfect in size. I now LOVE that they are clear, as they look so clean, and I can see whether or not my little ones have finished their food without getting up to look in their bowls. My boys, age 10, 8, and three always ate out of those plastic bowls with straws, now, even they don't want to use their old bowls. Now, I need to donate all the old bowls to charity as they have not been used even once in the two months since these arrived. These bowls are great! I am surprised that I am so impressed with them as they just seemed so basic when I purchased them online. I definately was not expecting to like them so much. They also stack great in the cupboard and they're pretty tough. I accidently knocked one off the countertop while doing the dishes and it just rolled. Good deal.

I bought these bowls when they were discounted nicely as a Friday Sale item and I couldn't be happier with them! They're the perfect size for cereal, ice cream, soup, or chili. The basic clear glass is great: It goes with anything, is safe for the microwave, and won't stain like some ceramic or plastic bowls do. These bowls are nice and heavy, too. If you're looking for great everyday bowls, I can't recommend these enough!

These are nice and heavy for the kids to use as cereal bowls, just the right size. I love that I can heat their food in the microwave and not worry about the plastic leaching chemicals!

The bowl is a great size for: chili, salad, cereal, fruit. Not too deep and not to shallow and nicely shaped to easily get at every bite!! Nice weight and durable. Food always looks good in clear glass. The bowls also make perfect snack bowls for nuts, candy, dips, etc.

The bowls came - they were cumbersome, and take up a lot of room in cabinet. The glass is very thick, but not quality. Half the bowls came with the rims chipped and still flaking off slivers of glass. The glass of the bowls have a slight green tint. Basically you get what you pay for. For $19.99 for 12 bowls- the price is good, but I was looking for more quality. Since half were chipped, I sent them back to Amazon. They said 'Libbey' brand on them- but they were really made in Mexico. The quality was poor (nothing against Mexico.) I see people rated these well, but honestly, for an established home, I wouldn't bother if I were you.

I was leery about buying these bowls after reading the reviews. People complained about size and quality, but at $19.99 for a dozen, I bought them anyway. They are perfect. The picture is accurate, as are the measurements. I have four children, and if anything, these bowls are a little too big for them (and even me). We use them for everything--cereal, soup, salad, desserts, etc. The glass is fairly thick, and they go through the dishwasher and microwave just fine. Besides, at less than $1.50 apiece, it's not the end of the world if one breaks. Yes, they were made in Mexico by Libbey, but why does that really matter? I am very happy with this product.

A review in short.
I purchased 12 of these a couple of years ago. They arrived half broken. Amazon promptly sent me another order. I now had about 18 bowls. They are attractive and great for salads and eating cereal. I like that they are deep so stuff like soup and cereal milk don't slosh out as I balance the bowl on my chest in bed.

I am now looking for more bowls as I only have about 6 left. These are not tough bowls and easily break and chip. My mother gave me four glass bowls 20 years ago and I have all four still. Changing environments to be sure, but those four remain unchipped, albeit a bit scratched up, but fully functional. They shared the cupboard with these bowls.

These are an everyday kind of bowl and are not sustainable in that fashion. My hunt is on for something more Pyrexy and durable...
