A Great resource for a Schola Cantorum,

The Liber Cantualis contains 4 main sections: Ordo Missae (the Ordinary of the Mass), Cantus in Ordine Missae Occurrentes (Chants orrcuring in the Ordinary of the Mass), Sequentiae (Sequences), and Cantus Varii (Miscellaneous Chants). The book is entriely in Latin, and the music in written in standard chant notation (square notes).
The Ordo Missae has the 'dialogue' portions of the Mass, e.g., where the priest sings "Dominus Vobiscum", and the people reply, "Et cum Spritu tuo". It also has a selection of what are normally referred to as the "Ordinary" parts of the Mass: the Kyrie (from Mass XVI), Gloria (XV), Credo I, Santus (XVIII), and Agnus Dei (XVIII). The "Cantus in Ordine Missae Occurrentes" section has settings of the Kyrie, Gloria, Santus, and Agnus Dei from Masses I, IV, VIII, IX, XI, and XVII, as well as Credo III, and the Propers for the Mass for the Dead. The Sequentiae are the main 4 Sequences: Victimae Paschali Laudes, Veni Sancte Spiritus, the Ecce Panis section of the Lauda Sion, and the Stabat Mater Dolorosa. The Cantus Varii are REALLY varii: chants for the Blessed Sacrament, the Blessed Virgin, many seasonal chants, and various Pslam and Canticles. We are a schola just starting out, and we use this book constantly.

Not detailed. Most common chants could not be found in the book. Do not waste your money if you have been into chant for years. Buy something else like Liber Usualis or something beter.

This little book is great for use on the ordinaries of the Mass. Much smaller than the Gregorian Missal; so not as heavy and cumberson.
