Editorial Reviews

Available for the first time on DVD

Before the diamond-studded costumes and extravagant lifestyle, there was the Emmy Award-winning Liberace television series of the 1950s. A showcase for the brilliant pianist and his vast repertoire of popular, classical, jazz, and folk music, Liberace dazzled the audience week after week with his prodigious talent and personality. Liberace: Greatest Songs presents Mr. Showmanship in all his glitzy glory as he plays songs from around the world and across the ages.

Highlights include a wide-ranging repertoire including popular (I m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover, Sunny Side of the Street), classical (Moonlight Sonata, The Saber Dance), jazz (12th Street Rag, Carmen s Boogie), and folk music (La Cucaracha, Clair de Lune).

This official collection includes over 5 ½ hours of digitally remastered material

Purchased this for my Mom. Through the years, I've heard her mention Liberace this, Liberace that. When she received the DVD, she sat in front of that TV for days watching it over and over again. Sometimes, she'll put it on just to listen to the music as she goes about her day. The DVD is a very nice production and a great way for the younger generation to be introduced to a gentle, yet great performer. His smile alone is worth the price of the DVD.

This is a wonderfull 5 1/2 hours of great piano playing of all kinds of music both classiacl and pouular songs with Liberace 's brother George and his orchestra. The filming is very clear and the sound quality is excellent. To spice up , you will enjoy the spoken brief commentary that Liberace makes before each piece. A greate price for such a great performance

After having seen the premiere of a cabaret production about Liberace last weekend in his home town of Milwaukee, I HAD to order this. The quality of this set is phenomenal, especially for clips from a TV show almost 60 years old. Very entertaining! Really shows what an incredible talent he was. I remember my Mom watching his show weekday afternoons when I was just a toddler. What a treasure!

Liberace's "Greatest Songs" are not my idea of his greatest songs. "Digitally remastered material" should have been a warning. Granted, there are some goodies included but, on the whole, it's a sort of annoying mish-mash. Furthermore, I absolutely must have the introductory piano music, the smile, the wink, and "I'll be seeing you" at the end--they are a huge part of the fun--and none of them are there. Someone's just chopped them out--what a liberty!

This is a 2 disc DVD set of some of his greatest songs. It boasts over 5 1/2 hours of playing time (approx. 354 minutes). These are once again in black and white, but in no way detract from his piano playing style. Liberace's TV series from the early 1950's show that even then he was great. He plays popular, classical, jazz and folk music. He discusses the history of most of the songs (what they are called, who created them, and sometimes, why they were created). Great for all generations...old and new. He switches from classical playing, to Boogie Woogie to Latin tempo without effort on the same song. His fingers literally fly over the keys. A treasure worth keeping for any music lover.
