Editorial Reviews

Liberace and the London Philharmonic Orchestra is a two CD set featuring their 1984 performance at London's Wembley Centre. Never released commercially on compact disc, Liberace performs all his favorite numbers with orchestra under the direction of David Snell. It has been digitally remastered from the original 24 multi-track recording. Known throughout the world as Mr. Showmanship, Liberace was celebrated for his spectacular costumes, jewelry, furs and cars, as well as his musical talent. On this CD, you will not only enjoy his playing with this magnificent orchestra, but also the down-to-earth humor of the confident and mature Liberace.

Liberace shows us that he is still at the top of his game on this 1984 Royal Command Performance at the Wembley Centre. The London philharmonic Orchestra backs up Liberace and the results are none less than spectacular. Lee leans heavily on his classical catalog for disc one and on disc two follows it up with many of his classic songs. The sound quality and performance on this set is top notch. Truly an amazing live performance. If you are fan of Liberace or just want to have an overview of the power and magic that was Liberace Live I would recommend this set. It just a brilliant performance from beginning to end.

This album on CD is must better than on vinyl because by the time it was issued on vinyl the quality of 33 rpm records was on the decline. I have both and the record, while well taken care of, it shot. Much more enjoyable listening on a new CD. The content of the music is a pleasure. From the Gershwin classics to the classical masterpieces. The selections cover a hundred years and Lee's playing in still fluid and light. Makes for wonderful listening no matter how many times you play it.

My copy was a CD-R and not a Compact Disc.

The description here on Amazon says this was from a 1984 concert but the CD and booklet itself list no dates. Two conductors are mentioned too, which I found confusing. Is the London Philharmonic not on all tracks?

The "Chariots of Fire" composer is listed as "Yangelis". His name is Vangelis with a "V".

Although obvious that he plays the piano, no where in the liner notes or cover does it specifically mention that the pianist on the CD is Liberace.

Amazing listen. No one has ever been able to put as many notes in a measure of music as Liberace. He played with such passion and sense of joy, one can not listen without being touched by the performance.

Goes without saying his music was a kind of its own. Sometimes it's just nice to listen to something that's really artistry.

Sound mix is very poor. Liberace is great but the CD isn't. Even the volume is too low. Lee would be very angry if he knew.
