4.0 out of 5 stars a good album, but quite different than their other releases
if you grown to like nofx from their later releases like punk in drublic, or white trash, two heebs and a been, then chances are you won't find this appealing. this album was from their earlier sessions where there was more of a metal/grind/hardcore influence to their sound. they still have their humor and satire in their lyrics, which makes for some amusing listening...

2.0 out of 5 stars Only for the die hards, folks
This is an early NOFX release, their first actual album to be released (to clear the confusion from below). All the songs on the unofficial "Maximum Rocknroll" were recorded before this, but this is the first full length NOFX put out. And, as the band would gladly tell you, it's pretty bad. This is NOFX at an early stage, before they took their music into the...

if you grown to like nofx from their later releases like punk in drublic, or white trash, two heebs and a been, then chances are you won't find this appealing. this album was from their earlier sessions where there was more of a metal/grind/hardcore influence to their sound. they still have their humor and satire in their lyrics, which makes for some amusing listening experiences. so, if you like nofx for their lyrics and their do it yourself attitude, regardless of how they sound, by all means buy this album. if you like more of a pop punk, softer melodic sound, then buy their later releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to those who downplay this album, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
This is the type of album for all of us punk fans to thrash around to. The sound here is very harsh, not for pussies. The guitar work will blow you away, and Fat Mike writes the funniest lyrics! Get this if you like thrash punk with a silly twist. Actually, this may appeal to some metalheads too, so if you're into 80's metal you'll be impressed with the speed thrash and metallic riffs that show everywhere on this album.

Do not listen to those who downplay this album. This is weird but unique and in-your-face hardcore, not the pop-punk stuff they've been putting out since after this release. It may not have the best production quality, but on the other hand it is very raw and will kick your a$$. Go out and buy this if you know what's good for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars P-U-N-K !, June 23, 2005
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
Okay. So here's the thing. The word 'punk' gets thrown around these days more than a baseball at Fenway. The whiny sops who claim to be punk bands these days should take a good, long, critical look at themselves in the mirror, then play this album until their ears bleed and they cry for their mothers. While it is true that this NoFX album has a noticeable heavy metal guitar influence, there is no denying the raw agression, speed, message and sense of humor on "Liberal Animation." All of the best aspects of real punk are on display here; loud guitars, spastic drums, off-key vocals, and plenty of attitude. Lord, I do love punk...

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw?Bad? No just Good old School PUNK!, December 14, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
This is a great punk cd. Yes it took me about five listens to get into it but after that you get familier with the lyrics and there are some great songs that are true about vegetarians. As far as Nofx this is there rawest album. Overall a good punk cd, but this is not five star material. Overall the vocals are off on almost every note, but who cares it sounds great, yet it does get sort of old. If you like old punk music then pick this up, if you are more picky about your music then pass this one up.

Shut Up Already- 8/10
Freedumb-7/10
Here Comes The Neighborhood-10/10
A200 Club- 8/10
Sloppy English- 7/10
You Put Your Chocolate In My Peanutbutter- 6/10
Mr.Jones- 7/10
Vegetarian Mubmo Jumbo- 8/10
Beer Bong-8/10
Piece-9/10
I Live In A Cake- 6/10
No Problems- 6/10
On The Rag- 10/10
Truck Stop Blues- 7/10

Overall there are no real bad songs, but it does get a bit repetitive. There are some really short song, and some range up to about 3:30. A good punk cd from '91 that only the true punk fans should pick up.

4.0 out of 5 stars raw, fast, funny, punk, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
Thats how punk should be... and NOFX did it in a great way. NOFX's second album is lyrically hilarious because the issues aren't dealing with politics. Mike's voice is definately not for everyone and this is way before it got great but if you are a true punk fan you should really enjoy this. The best songs are Shut Up Already, Here Comes The Neighborhood, A200 Club (hilarious song about having crabs), Mr. Jones, Vegetarion Mumbo Jumbo and the weird I Live In A Cake. It does have its weak points like towards the end it kind of sucks and the songs Freedumb and Sloppy English just aren't that good. I'd reccommend this if you have/like S&M Airlines or Ribbed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The way NOFX should have stayed, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
This is a lot better than any of the newer NOFX stuff. This stuff is angry as hell, and their guitarist Steve bangs out some pretty raw and burning metal riffs that add a lot of effect. Their drummer is wild. This isn't for those who enjoy newer NOFX albums like Punk In Drublic, so be warned. If you like blistering, burning hardcore stuff though, this will rock your socks off. My favorite songs are Shut Up Already, Mr. Jones, You Put Your Chocolate In My Peanut Butter, Beer Bong, Piece, I Live In A Cake and Truck Stop Blues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore Punk Masterpiece, August 23, 2005
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
Before embracing the pop-punk wave of the mid nineties, NOFX was a very proficient hardcore punk band. With powerful hardcore vocals, strong solos, speedy riffs, and basslines to match, Liberal Animation is NOFX's creative and artistic zenith. After this, it's all radio friendly pop-punk in the same vein as Green Day.

5.0 out of 5 stars hands down, BEST thing NOFX ever touched, September 29, 2004
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
best punk/thrash album ever!!! the intensity of eriks drumming on this record is second to none. they take the early 80's hardcore style with super fast drum rolls almost every other measure, amazing DRI-esque (1st album of course) short guitar leads, and a bass tone you can actually hear.
this album pisses off everyone: peace punks, vegetarians, girls, people with VD, the PC
the weird timing of the accents in the beginning of "A200 Club" (and the whole riff in general) was brilliant. "You Put Your Chocolate in My Peanut Butter" is so fast and crushing as well.
all these other people that reviewed this album don't know what they're talking about. if you think it's sloppy, you've never listened to anything except mid to late 90's NOFX. If you like this record check out Adrenalin OD, Nip Drivers, Neos, Stikky.

why didn't NOFX continue to play stuff like this? it was way better, and personally, i think they have been playing crap since 1992. maybe they wanted to play more polished pop punk, but still, look at your fan base now fat mike, none of these 12 year old pixie girls would have dared to go to NOFX show in the early 80's.

5.0 out of 5 stars sick mate, July 26, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Liberal Animation (Audio CD)
a lot of kinda silly people are writing this album, along with
maximum rock and roll, off. I dont know why because these albums
are far more punk than all other releases by nofx. mind you i am
a fan of 80s hardcore and despise 90s pop punk (nofx i still
respect tho, and dont mind a lot of the newer "poppier" stuff.)
these two albums make me very happy as a fan of the old school
and shows that nofx can belt out the high speed rock and roll
that i love
