Book Description

August 8, 1996 076180336X 978-0761803362
Many if not most of the students who enroll in Bachelor of Arts programs do so without a clear sense of purpose. This book introduces new or prospective university students to the B.A. degree. It seeks to explain the nature and purpose of liberal education, and discusses how liberal education is being undermined in today's university.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A 'must read' for all people who are concerned about the form and content of undergraduate arts education.>>>> (Heidi Studer )

Simple, direct, and accessible, this little book should be required reading for every high school student thinking of attending a liberal srts college and every freshman entering one. It offers a timely guide to questions students, and parents, shouldask about liberal education.>>> (Nichols, Mary P. )

A small book of large ideas on university education: simple yet profound, current yet timeless. Quite an achievement.>>>> (Mansfield, Harvey C. )

...[an] engaging and much-needed little book...>>>> (Mansfield, Harvey C. Books In Canada )

This is a marvellously clear and lively short guide for young people on their way to university. The book tells the unvarnished truth about the crisis in our higher education, and gives students a map that will help them to avoid many of the gravest pitfalls while benefitting from the few remaining oases that can provide a genuine spiritual awakening and a joyful intellectual challenge during the college years. Reading this book could easily make the difference between having a dismal and a delightfulcollege experience.>> (Pangle, Thomas L. )
