Book Description

March 7, 2006

Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder-

Michael Savage has the cure.

With grit, guts, and gusto, talk radio sensation Michael Savage leaves no political turn unstoned as he savages today's most rabid liberalism. In this paperback edition of his third New York Times bestseller, Savage strikes at the root of today's most pressing issues, including:

Homeland security: "We need more Patton and less patent leather . . . Real homeland security begins when we arrest, interrogate, jail, or deport known operatives within our own borders . . . One dirty bomb can ruin your whole day."

Illegal immigration: "I envision an Oil for Illegals program . . . The president should demand one barrel of oil from Mexico for every illegal that sneaks into our country."

Lawsuit abuse: "Lawyers are like red wine. Everything in moderation. Today we have far too many lawyers, and we're suffering from cirrhosis of the economy."

"Pure Savage. Very effective, very timely, very hot." American Compass Book Club

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Michael Savage continues to soar as the No. 1 New York Times author of the The Savage Nation, The Enemy Within, and Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder. His program, The Michael Savage Show, airs on four hundred radio stations coast to coast (including WOR in New York and KNEW in San Francisco) and enjoys ten million weekly listeners, the nation's third largest talk radio audience. A man of the people, Savage has labored as a factory worker, teacher, social worker, medicinal plant explorer, and biologist, earning master's degrees in both medical botany and medical anthropology and a Ph.D. in epidemiology and nutrition science from the University of California at Berkeley. He is the founder and director of the Paul Revere Society, which supports our nation's right to defend and protect its borders, language, and culture.

From AudioFile

On his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage's rhetoric makes Rush Limbaugh seem tame in comparison. Savage's style is memorable, provocative, and inimitable. Reader Mark Warner clearly understands Savage's style and seeks to represent it as closely as possible. Warner comes close to capturing Savage's outrage, irony, and humor, but he doesn't capture it completely. Nevertheless, Warner's reading is clear and even-paced. As for the text, Savage offers his views on a wide range of issues, from the war on terrorism ("We need more Patton and less patent leather") to why the American people, whom he regularly calls "sheeple," are so gullible. 4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected; really made me think... April 5, 2005
Format:Hardcover
Love him or hate him, Dr. Savage is certainly an interesting and compelling writer. He's back once again touting his "borders, language and culture" mantra from the previous books. This is supposedly the final of this series. The new spin this time takes his assault on liberalism to its ultimate and logical conclusion, asserting that extreme liberalism is in fact a mental disease--one in which logic no longer prevails yet emotion runs rampant. The useful morons, as he calls them, flock like lemmings behind ideas that simply cannot work. He goes on to prove his points by citing hundreds of specific examples based upon remarkably well-founded research (the guy is an actual scientist after all). It's nice to see a little substance behind the political commentary.

He doesn't just slam the left, as you might expect from the title, however. His vitriol takes a stab at the current administration's handling of homeland security in general and our country's borders in particular. Savage's fiery witticisms such as "more Pattons (i.e., the general) and less patent leather," "one dirty bomb ruining your whole day," and "oil for illegals" aren't really as funny as he thinks they are and frankly got pretty annoying after a while. Regardless, the underlying message is pretty well-written, consistent, and insightful.

If you want to look at America through the eyes of a true conservative, this book is for you. If you lean left you will hate it. If you lean right you'll probably love it. The vast majority of us in the middle will think it is worth reading. It doesn't follow the Republican party line nor does it universally slam the Democrats. It's truly a liberal vs. conservative treatise and a pretty good one at that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some unnecessary roughnesss but a winner April 12, 2010
By Phil S.
Format:Paperback
Fans of his radio show will enjoy much of the book if only for hearing Savage's resonant, Rabinical tones, on subjects he's already covered, on-air. Initiates will be stunnewd at his eloquence, in this age of the College-dropout pundit. (By the way, we are talking about Doctor Michael Savage).

I find some of his connect-the-dot revelations to be on the level of Fox's Glenn Beck - that Communism is just one "dot" away from Socialsim, which too many in Washington promote, intentionally or unintentionally. He is at his greatest in detailing Middle East events, especially relating to the bizarre glorification of the murderous and greedy thug, Yassar Arafat.

Book effectively highlights his most quotable points, in strategically placed boxes, on the pages.

Impressive footnote section.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing June 23, 2005
A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
I find it hard to believe that so many reviewers can bash this book and call the information it provides faulty or moronic. Savage wrote his book wonderfully and sited many specific examples of how liberalism is hell-bent on destroying American values. And what is most surprising (at least to ignorant radical left wingers) is that he provides logic. Is it logical to provide illegial aliens with American benifets? Is it logical to not be allowed to hire people you want to hire in your buisness? Or is logical to have more of our soldiers on trial for killing the enemey then the enemey themselves? No, and thats exactly what savage exploits

3.0 out of 5 stars A Clear View for the New April 15, 2005
Format:Hardcover
This review is for you if: 1)you are new to Michael Savage; 2)new to conservatism; 3)an open-minded liberal who wants to test the water a little first; 4) someone, like me, who can't stand the biased posing such political books get from both sides and would like a quiet, rational look at something.

My background. I come from a liberal Democrat family and am the only conservative. I did not become a conservative by design or by age; but rather by personal experience. I am in the process of finishing a triple-major undergraduate degree, have served in the military 13 years, and worked as a volunteer chaplain for both the Army and the California Penal System. So I have seen a lot in life, which has forced me to continually examine and re-examine my values.

Michael Savage is a very interesting person. Well-educated; holds a Ph.D in biology (if I remember correctly); married with grown children; he is an enigma to both conservatives and liberals in that He holds his own views. For instance, he believes in holistic medicine as a first course and is a devout enviromentalist; but at the same time believes that western medicine is ultimately the best developed and that SUV's are not an enviromental threat.

He does have a nationally syndicated and top-rated radio program. In most "markets" his show is in the top 10 if not the top 5. Which is quite an accomplishment considering all the competition that exists in the now-maturing talk radio venue.

His books, this is his third I believe, have all been best-sellers, for what that is worth, and follow his on-air conversational style. Like his on-air persona Mr. Savage is a provocateur. So, the book is more a collection of flow-of-consciousness essays than a complete discourse or treatise on conservative positions.

I have listened to various talk radio shows for years, as I drive all over to, from and for work / live....whatever.

I read anything and everything plus live life. Neither liberal or conservative.....just believe and vote for who I think will do the best job etc.

I think Savage is a hoot, plus he does say it like it is. Although i do find him a bit extreme at times, he does point out interesting points. In addition there are certain passions he has, where he digs up facts and provides hitory, I would not know otherwise.

In his book, I learned a lot about concepts that happen now, that have occurred in the past, old behaviors that are just repeating themselves......i.e. human behaviors, i researched this on my own, after getting the notes from his book in the back, and learned even more. I liked that about this book, the references rocked so I could research and learn more on my own, that took me in all different directions.

ONe thing I love about Michael Savage is he sparks my mind to think and learn for myself because of his writing style and "in your face style" He doesn't drag on too long on one topic, he is humorous, catty and then offers his solutions (sometimes very out there - but sometimes the out there is just to scary for us to swallow because they should be done)

I really recommend this book because it opens your mind to thinking, don't take his words as God's words, think for yourself, as you always should. Michael Savage is very unique on his radio show, he continually tells his listeners that he is only a talk show host, he has no political power etc. He is just an entertainer who cares about issues etc.

Back to the book, it is very entertaining and informative.

1.0 out of 5 stars Conservatism? Nope!
I don't know what's happening to conservatives in the US, but this book has little to do with conservatism. What Dr. Savage espouses is much closer to fascism than anything else.
