Book Description

March 7, 2006

Dr. Savage, sage prophet of the airwaves, has been diagnosing liberal mental illness for more than a decade. Now, in his third and most insightful book, he strikes at the root of today's most desperate issues, providing a hefty dose of his unique conservative medicine, including:

  • Homeland security: "We need more Patton and less patent leather. . .Real homelandsecurity begins when we arrest, interrogate, jail, or deport known operatives within ourown borders. . .One dirty bomb can ruin your whole day."
  • The ACLU, National Lawyers Guild, and MoveOn.org: "I believe it's time for the heads of . . . left-wing agitation groups who are using the courts to impose their will on thesheeple to be prosecuted under the federal RICO statutes."
  • Illegal immigration: "I envision an Oil for Illegals program. . .The president shoulddemand one barrel of oil from Mexico for every illegal alien that sneaks into our country."
  • The Doctor is in and the diagnosis is clear. Read Liberalism is a Mental Disorder and find out what you can do to treat it.

    Editorial Reviews

    From AudioFile

On his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage's rhetoric makes Rush Limbaugh seem tame in comparison. Savage's style is memorable, provocative, and inimitable. Reader Mark Warner clearly understands Savage's style and seeks to represent it as closely as possible. Warner comes close to capturing Savage's outrage, irony, and humor, but he doesn't capture it completely. Nevertheless, Warner's reading is clear and even-paced. As for the text, Savage offers his views on a wide range of issues, from the war on terrorism ("We need more Patton and less patent leather") to why the American people, whom he regularly calls "sheeple," are so gullible. 4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected; really made me think..., April 5, 2005
Love him or hate him, Dr. Savage is certainly an interesting and compelling writer. He's back once again touting his "borders, language and culture" mantra from the previous books. This is supposedly the final of this series. The new spin this time takes his assault on liberalism to its ultimate and logical conclusion, asserting that extreme liberalism is in fact a mental disease--one in which logic no longer prevails yet emotion runs rampant. The useful morons, as he calls them, flock like lemmings behind ideas that simply cannot work. He goes on to prove his points by citing hundreds of specific examples based upon remarkably well-founded research (the guy is an actual scientist after all). It's nice to see a little substance behind the political commentary.

He doesn't just slam the left, as you might expect from the title, however. His vitriol takes a stab at the current administration's handling of homeland security in general and our country's borders in particular. Savage's fiery witticisms such as "more Pattons (i.e., the general) and less patent leather," "one dirty bomb ruining your whole day," and "oil for illegals" aren't really as funny as he thinks they are and frankly got pretty annoying after a while. Regardless, the underlying message is pretty well-written, consistent, and insightful.

If you want to look at America through the eyes of a true conservative, this book is for you. If you lean left you will hate it. If you lean right you'll probably love it. The vast majority of us in the middle will think it is worth reading. It doesn't follow the Republican party line nor does it universally slam the Democrats. It's truly a liberal vs. conservative treatise and a pretty good one at that.

All in all, I found this book not only entertaining, but illuminating as well. It really did make me think.

This is one of Savage's best books. He nails it on many different levels, while keeping the flow and direction simple and easily delivered. Dr. Savage's books should be required reading for those that wish to understand conservatism.

If you are a conservative, person of faith or just have common sense, prepare to be portrayed as "fringe" by the media, elites and liberals. This book tells it like it is, and so does Michael Savage. The only "haters" are those who hate Savage and what he stands for. If this country weren't so inside out and morally bankrupt, Savage would be considered an American Treasure, by all. To many of us, he is just that. Go, Michael, go!!
