Better than I expected; really made me think...,
By
This review is from: Liberalism is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Hardcover)
Love him or hate him, Dr. Savage is certainly an interesting and compelling writer. He's back once again touting his "borders, language and culture" mantra from the previous books. This is supposedly the final of this series. The new spin this time takes his assault on liberalism to its ultimate and logical conclusion, asserting that extreme liberalism is in fact a mental disease--one in which logic no longer prevails yet emotion runs rampant. The useful morons, as he calls them, flock like lemmings behind ideas that simply cannot work. He goes on to prove his points by citing hundreds of specific examples based upon remarkably well-founded research (the guy is an actual scientist after all). It's nice to see a little substance behind the political commentary. He doesn't just slam the left, as you might expect from the title, however. His vitriol takes a stab at the current administration's handling of homeland security in general and our country's borders in particular. Savage's fiery witticisms such as "more Pattons (i.e., the general) and less patent leather," "one dirty bomb ruining your whole day," and "oil for illegals" aren't really as funny as he thinks they are and frankly got pretty annoying after a while. Regardless, the underlying message is pretty well-written, consistent, and insightful. If you want to look at America through the eyes of a true conservative, this book is for you. If you lean left you will hate it. If you lean right you'll probably love it. The vast majority of us in the middle will think it is worth reading. It doesn't follow the Republican party line nor does it universally slam the Democrats. It's truly a liberal vs. conservative treatise and a pretty good one at that. All in all, I found this book not only entertaining, but illuminating as well. It really did make me think.

Conservatism? Nope!,
This review is from: Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Paperback)
I don't know what's happening to conservatives in the US, but this book has little to do with conservatism. What Dr. Savage espouses is much closer to fascism than anything else.

Great BOOK, - STARTS you thinking - make up your own mind!,
This review is from: Liberalism is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Hardcover)
I have listened to various talk radio shows for years, as I drive all over to, from and for work / live....whatever.I read anything and everything plus live life. Neither liberal or conservative.....just believe and vote for who I think will do the best job etc. I think Savage is a hoot, plus he does say it like it is. Although i do find him a bit extreme at times, he does point out interesting points. In addition there are certain passions he has, where he digs up facts and provides hitory, I would not know otherwise. In his book, I learned a lot about concepts that happen now, that have occurred in the past, old behaviors that are just repeating themselves......i.e. human behaviors, i researched this on my own, after getting the notes from his book in the back, and learned even more. I liked that about this book, the references rocked so I could research and learn more on my own, that took me in all different directions. ONe thing I love about Michael Savage is he sparks my mind to think and learn for myself because of his writing style and "in your face style" He doesn't drag on too long on one topic, he is humorous, catty and then offers his solutions (sometimes very out there - but sometimes the out there is just to scary for us to swallow because they should be done) I really recommend this book because it opens your mind to thinking, don't take his words as God's words, think for yourself, as you always should. Michael Savage is very unique on his radio show, he continually tells his listeners that he is only a talk show host, he has no political power etc. He is just an entertainer who cares about issues etc. Back to the book, it is very entertaining and informative. I don't think Savage is a liberal or conservative....I know I disagree with a lot of his positions, however that is why I love America, we are allowed to do this. One thing I think this book does say and I agree with is that all of us have to stand up and take back our Country, instead of bitching about what party we are and how bad congress, senate or presidents are. We all need to start doing instead of spewing because it doesn't look like anyone in Washington is going to do. At any rate, loved the book, it really is good and I don't think anyone would be bummed if they got this and read it. Hope this helps. Bonnie

Amazing,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Liberalism is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Hardcover)
I find it hard to believe that so many reviewers can bash this book and call the information it provides faulty or moronic. Savage wrote his book wonderfully and sited many specific examples of how liberalism is hell-bent on destroying American values. And what is most surprising (at least to ignorant radical left wingers) is that he provides logic. Is it logical to provide illegial aliens with American benifets? Is it logical to not be allowed to hire people you want to hire in your buisness? Or is logical to have more of our soldiers on trial for killing the enemey then the enemey themselves? No, and thats exactly what savage exploits

A Clear View for the New,
By Sonny MD (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Liberalism is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Hardcover)
This review is for you if: 1)you are new to Michael Savage; 2)new to conservatism; 3)an open-minded liberal who wants to test the water a little first; 4) someone, like me, who can't stand the biased posing such political books get from both sides and would like a quiet, rational look at something. My background. I come from a liberal Democrat family and am the only conservative. I did not become a conservative by design or by age; but rather by personal experience. I am in the process of finishing a triple-major undergraduate degree, have served in the military 13 years, and worked as a volunteer chaplain for both the Army and the California Penal System. So I have seen a lot in life, which has forced me to continually examine and re-examine my values. Michael Savage is a very interesting person. Well-educated; holds a Ph.D in biology (if I remember correctly); married with grown children; he is an enigma to both conservatives and liberals in that He holds his own views. For instance, he believes in holistic medicine as a first course and is a devout enviromentalist; but at the same time believes that western medicine is ultimately the best developed and that SUV's are not an enviromental threat. He does have a nationally syndicated and top-rated radio program. In most "markets" his show is in the top 10 if not the top 5. Which is quite an accomplishment considering all the competition that exists in the now-maturing talk radio venue. His books, this is his third I believe, have all been best-sellers, for what that is worth, and follow his on-air conversational style. Like his on-air persona Mr. Savage is a provocateur. So, the book is more a collection of flow-of-consciousness essays than a complete discourse or treatise on conservative positions. It will; however, be a quick and entertaining read that may give you pause for thought. What I enjoy about Mr. Savage's radio show, and in his books, is the sense of someone who still has the capacity for true moral outrage. Thus be forewarned, he can be a little pointed. He does not rant in his book like he does on the radio. In fact, his rants are not true rants as they all have a beginning, middle, and end on a rational basis. What people may mistake for ranting is his working-class tone and volume of voice - which may or may not come through completely here. I happen to have several friends from New York state and from the same social strata and they all have this characteristic to some degree. So it is a regional expression you are experiencing, not someone who is genuinely angry or out of control. The bottom line is this book is a great piece of entertainment with some things to cause you to think if you are not entirely bound-up by your political leanings, left or right. I would suggest you buy it here at Amazon as the price is not full retail. If it were a more substantial and studious treatise I would happily pay full price, but it is essentially light entertainment and should be treated ... and enjoyed... that way.

You always knew liberals had issues -- now it's documented.,
By Entropy (Washington D.C.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Paperback)
Liberalism is a Mental Disorder is for those who have always felt "Something" is wrong with liberals, didn't have the time to figure out exactly what it was, and have the burning desire to finally put their finger on it.It's an accurate description of why Liberals think and do the things they do. How I found this book: I had always thought that most Liberals had some degree of psychological disturbance. This was an honest observation, and not an attempt to disparage them -- though there's now way to say this and have a liberal not feel disparaged. Nobody want's to be told they have a psychological issues. Years ago, when Bush was running for his 2nd term, I began to scan AM radio for the first time in my life. As auto-scan ran through the stations and I suddenly heard "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder". Nearly spilling my drink, I reached for the radio to keep it from scanning further. That's how I found Savage, and that's how I found this book. Love Savage or hate Savage -- love me or hate me for my post [insert your own finish here]

Insanity is a mental disorder,
By Jill Malter (jillmalter@aol.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Liberalism is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Hardcover)
Yes, this book was better than I expected, given its unfortunate title. After all, we are all Americans here in the United States, and I think it is more productive for us all to work together than to use harsh language about people with different politics. And I certainly think Savage is unfair to liberals in general and to liberalism. As a liberal, I wanted to read about some criticisms of liberalism. But this book does not criticize liberalism nearly as much as it does the non-liberal policies of some so-called liberals. There is a chapter about the protection of our borders. Now protection of our borders, language, and culture is actually a national issue, not simply a conservative one. Similarly, human rights, justice, and truth are national issues, not simply liberal ones. I think it is better to discuss these issues in such terms. And to some extent, Savage does so. The author is right that the United States needs to control its borders. Now, we may disagree signifcantly about some of the details, such as how many immigrants we'll allow in. But I certainly am not going to recommend that we simply open our borders to everyone (as well as to any nuclear weapons they may be smuggling). Even if we intend to let in many of those who now enter the United States illegally, I want this done legally, with our authorities in control of our borders. Savage implies that liberals are too soft on border control, but I think this is unfair, and that border control is a national issue. What about Islamofascism, as Savage quite appropriately calls it? Are some liberals just a little too eager to whitewash it? Yes, some are. But the issues are of truth, incitement, human rights, and sedition, and all of these are national issues. Besides, fascism is simply not liberal. I think Savage makes some good points, but they are valid for all of us, across the political spectrum. The same can be said for puff pieces about Arafat. Savage lives up to his name in relating some of the more revolting paeans to this monstrous mass murderer. And I think those of us who indulge in coming up with them are not behaving as liberals. Arafat was not merely a monster, he was also an enemy of the United States and a political enemy of liberalism. I would have serious doubts about the liberal credentials of anyone who called George W. Bush the greatest President America has ever had. I have even more serious doubts about the liberal credentials of those who issue similar praise for Arafat. I think we liberals need to read this book. We've got enough problems trying to drum up support for rational behavior, human rights, equality, freedom, and justice. We do not need to give ourselves more problems by appearing to fight against our own principles.

Some unnecessary roughnesss but a winner,
By Phil S. (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Paperback)
Fans of his radio show will enjoy much of the book if only for hearing Savage's resonant, Rabinical tones, on subjects he's already covered, on-air. Initiates will be stunnewd at his eloquence, in this age of the College-dropout pundit. (By the way, we are talking about Doctor Michael Savage).I find some of his connect-the-dot revelations to be on the level of Fox's Glenn Beck - that Communism is just one "dot" away from Socialsim, which too many in Washington promote, intentionally or unintentionally. He is at his greatest in detailing Middle East events, especially relating to the bizarre glorification of the murderous and greedy thug, Yassar Arafat. Book effectively highlights his most quotable points, in strategically placed boxes, on the pages. Impressive footnote section.

Pretty good book. The only problem I have with it is it's 8 or so years old. Michael Savage rips up Bush's policies but Bush is no longer relavent anyway. Anyone thinking about purchasing this book should consider getting a newer one instead.

Should be required reading!!,
This review is from: Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions (Paperback)
If you are a conservative, person of faith or just have common sense, prepare to be portrayed as "fringe" by the media, elites and liberals. This book tells it like it is, and so does Michael Savage. The only "haters" are those who hate Savage and what he stands for. If this country weren't so inside out and morally bankrupt, Savage would be considered an American Treasure, by all. To many of us, he is just that. Go, Michael, go!!
