Book Description

Jared Foster's life has been, up to this point, relatively simple. He lives alone, works a simple job and maintains a long-distance relationship. He's content with his life and secure in the regular routine it offers. Then his girlfriend asks him to visit.

Though Jared could easily envision a plague of problems on his first solo road trip, running out of gas in the middle of nowhere wasn't a legitimate concern. Until it becomes a grim reality. Finally spotting an isolated rest stop, Jared pulls in. It's when he can't find anyone, not even someone behind the counter, that he starts to worry. Tentative apprehension turns to raw terror when he becomes trapped and something decidedly inhuman begins to hunt him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced horror mystery February 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Liberation Road is a fast paced horror mystery from author Sean A Lusher. In the story, the lead character Jared Collins finds himself at a deserted gas station on the aforementioned Liberation Road. After a series of impossible events, Jared is forced to face a creature from his worst nightmares, a creature with some link to his past. There are some interesting ideas in this yarn and the plot will keep you guessing as Jared aims to solve each of the dilemmas he faces. All in all an enjoyable short story.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Liberation December 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Jared was on his way to Hartford to meet--for the first time--Lara, his online girlfriend. That's when Liberation Road happens "to" him.
Nothing I say will prepare you for the story without giving it away. If you follow my reviews then you'll know that I have this knack for guessing the ending or at least the direction a story. Liberation Road mystified me until the very end. The author managed to let me see and feel what Jared was going through without letting it drag. The story unfolded in its own time, the proper time, as Jared faced one survival challenge after another.
The ending had a deep meaning, something to chew on and think about for sometime.
Jared is a believable character; his actions, thinking, and feelings felt real.
I can't recommend this book enough. It had me guessing while reading it and then thinking about it after I finished it. Books like Liberation Road stay long with a reader and truly liberate them.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting read by a talented new author November 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Lusher's greatest strength is his ability to craft a moody and compelling atmosphere, and Liberation Road has this quality in spades. The story also has a forward momentum that is greatly enhanced by the likability of its central character--you grow to truly care about Jared and want to see what happens to him next. Reading this the first time, I was at the edge of my seat. If you're looking for a suspenseful read to pass an hour, look no further.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good read July 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While this tale did have some predictible and obvious bits, it also was still a good tale. The horror was goreless (nice as is so uncommon) and there was an undertone of content related to freedom (liberation) of oneself related to barriers we construct for self (perhaps in self defense and / or are based in fear). The basis of the freedom is within self to change for self (a mode of thought or belief /behavior) and that being catalyst for brighter future. So, if one can say such...a feel good messaged horror tale.

Jared happens upon a place in his travels to meet his on line girlfriend. In this place Jared is confronted with a nightmarish fear from his past. In order to get out of Liberation he needs to determine the rules and extrapolate scenarios toward possible outcome in his favor. Ultimately, it comes down to determining the best possible way out and just allowing it to happen. There are undertones that this reader felt - even while subdued in presence. The halfway point between his current life (self described as rather insular and limited) brings to the fore a past fear /terror - one that seemingly helped Jared construct his insular life for self. Thus, it is fitting the fear presented at halfway point - perhaps as way to get Jared to rethink his decision to meet Lara. However, as he maintains his strong desire to meet her - he is able to face and overcome his insular self protection that keeps him drifting on the perimeter of life without fully participating. And facing the demon will allow him to blossom into a more fulfilling life. Or? There are no undertones, I am merely overthinking and the tale is a straightforward horror lite tale. :)

In anycase, the story is well told (though it felt overdone in a couple spots) with almost no errors (was edited well).

This is the best short story of yours I have ever read. Bravo. Had a very lusher voice, reminds me of Stephen King.
