Book Description

November 3, 2003 1903889545 978-1903889541 1
From its first appearance in 1978 to its final episode in 1981, Blake's 7 was a series which pushed back the boundaries of what was possible in TV science fiction. Despite the attempts made by critics over the years to deride it for its low-budget special effects, sometimes-dubious costume design and overly middle-class casting, Blake's 7 continues to remain popular and to gain new audiences, due to its intelligent treatment of powerful themes of human evil, rebellion, love and death. In this book, Alan Stevens and Fiona Moore go beyond the stereotypes and look at the background to and the writing of the stories. Including technical details, overviews of the production of the series and in-depth analyses of every episode, together with a number of previously-unpublished photographs, this book is the ideal companion for anyone interested in the development of TV science fiction during the late seventies. "... a wealth of detail about the early development of the series." From the foreword by series producer David Maloney.

This review is from: Liberation: The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to Blake's 7 (Paperback)
The Unofficial And Unauthorised Guide to Blake's 7 four seasons are very detailed, very complete, but should not be read unless you either have already seen the show or don't plan to see the show. The book breaks down each episode, getting into character development, linking stories together, explaining the plots and many themes of the show. With such great creative writers and artists as Terry Nation, Paul Darrow, Chris Boucher, David Maloney, Tanith Lee, and Dudley Simpson working hard on the show it is hard to say anything bad about the stories - but there are some flaws that the book brings up. But there is also merits. Sadly, I have only seen parts of the show, on and off, on PBS and other channels, and there are no DVDs available for my Region. So there only way for me to explore the series, at this time, was to get this book.
A must for anybody who is a fan of the show, or a fan of British sci-fi in general.
