Product Description

While researching Martha Ann's Quilt for Queen Victoria, I became captivated by many of the nineteenth century black women I learned about who emigrated to Liberia and built a nation. I'm excited to share this one story and quilt pattern with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich with Patterns of Deep Meaning and Integrity, May 22, 2007
Amazing work: This engaging and detailed account of the creation of Liberia's national flag reads as both dynamic history and empowering inspiration. Very much like an actual quilt, Kyra E. Hicks' "The Liberian Flag Story" is encoded with much care, meaning, and love. On the surface of this insightful write is the remarkable tale of African-American men and women who decided to reshape their destinies, and that of much of the world, as pioneering African men and women. Beneath that surface are great lessons in the power and grace of respect for the integrity of all human beings--even when those human beings distinguish themselves primarily by an ability to stitch and sew. Of particular note in this short are the mini-bios on the 7 women who formed the Flag Committee.

As if the wealth of insight and information provided in "The Liberian Flag Story" were not enough, Hicks makes a gift to the reader of the pattern for her own extraordinary "Love of Liberty Quilt." This is one particular Amazon Short with the potential to go a very long way in value and application.
