I simply can't get enough of this album: I have not been able to put it down since I got it. La Ley is a Rock en Espa#ol band from Chile that I first heard of back in 2000, when they released their amazing work 'Uno'. They followed up with one of the most successful unplugged albums in Spanish, making their act became very hard to top for other bands of the genre, but they outdid themselves with this album!'Libertad' is an outspoken album with lyrics that strike at the very fiber of what we all are living through in a post-9/11 world, where terrorism and war have become a part of everyone's lives. The words, so beautifully articulated by Beto Cuevas' sensual voice (often reminding of Miguel Bose singing rock), flow perfectly alongside the band's solid melodic and rhythm structure, forming a musical stream that is bound to carry away your worries, while it forces you to think through some issues. It is simply impossible to argue about the quality of this work: it is hands down the best album I've heard by them. Favorite tracks: the strong opening track and "Sabes Quien Eres" (you know who you are, one SOLID track!); the thoughtful "Esa es la verdad" (that's the truth); the title track (the best track in the album, with an intro rhythmic guitar line that reminded me of some great prog-rock works from the early seventies); and the softer "Mas Alla" (beyond), "En Casa" (at home), "Mundo Ideal" (ideal world). There's a little bit of everything in 'Libertad' and a LOT of good music: never mind the language, if you can't speak or read Spanish! You will totally dig 'Libertad'.

Mi opinion sobre "Libertad",
By
This review is from: Libertad (Audio CD)

After Uno and their MTV Unplugged CD's, both of which I really loved, I was eagerly anticipating their new album. When I eventually got it I was slightly disappointed as it didn't have the immediate catchiness of the previous two CD's. However after about a week I got completely hooked on it and it is now rarely off my CD player. My favourite tracks are Hotel Malibu, Durar Hasta El Final and ¿Sabes Quién Eres? The only thing I wish was on the CD is a song in English, but this is a purely selfish reason as my Spanish isn't great and I can only vaguely understand what the songs are about (I liked the fact that Uno's hidden track was in English). If you are tired of all the dull manufactured pop that seems to have taken over the charts (well in England anyway) then I recommend you listen to La Ley, it is great to hear a group that produces good, passionate music.

Wow, it grows on you!,

I have to say I wasn't crazy about this cd the first time I listened to it, unlike the first time I heard their MTV Unplugged cd. But I kept listening anyway and it's really gotten under my skin, just like the last one (although I still prefer the Unplugged one because I just like live albums and in particular the acoustic versions, plus I saw them in concert after that cd came out). These guys know how to deliver great hooks and melodies, and Beto's voice is as gorgeous as always. The lyrics I'll get to over more listenings since I'm still learning spanish, but from what I've picked up so far they're as well-crafted and interesting and spirit-pleasing as ever. By the way, the Boston Globe called La Ley "Chile's biggest export since the seedless grape... and happily this snack is just as juicy and sweet." ¡De acuerdo! I recommend it to anyone who liked their previous albums. If at first you're not sure you like it, keep listening!

La Ley delivers again, another spectacular album.,

The 9th album by La Ley, and not one of them sounds the same, BUT all of them are as good as the other. Once again we see a new sound, style, and look so perfectd that it seems they have been the same since the beggining. Libertad's "Amate Y Salvate" is a fast pased song that gives you more electric guitar than the rest of the album. And even thought this album is slow and some of its content is mainly concentrated by La Ley's attempt to ractify freedom and peace. Beto and the band make once again a great clean sound of all 12 tracks. It's hard for me to chose one best song becaue they all are exceptional in their own way. "Mas Alla" the second single, is based on a true story, as well as "Mi Ley" based on the 9/11 massacre. If you want more of the Amate Y Salvate sound you will not find it here, but I recommend you try "Vertigo" their 98 release. But if you are looking for a political and of course love inspired album with great vocals and deep lyrics, Libertad is for you. Hopefully the band has many years to come as their public grows worlwide, and they mature into new territories. The best latin rock band is back with the same taste of success it has always carried itself with, but with a different sound and poetry!

Excellent Music!,

Ok I must admit that I am Fairly new to La ley's Music, a few days ago I was out shopping and they were playing some of the songs of this CD's on the background, it immediately caught my attention , I could not resits and walked to the front desk and find out who was responsible for this treat to my ears, so they showed me the cover for "Libertad", I did not buy it then but did a couple of days ago, what can I say? It was much better than what I expected it to be, I have heard about La ley being good but I dont listen much to Latin Rock (even though I am Latin) first time I gave this CD a spin I was Blown away, Amate Y salvate starts off this brilliant CD , not bad to start , the songs flow very well to the next one And I did not feel the need to skip any , other highlights include : Esa es la verdad, Y Los Demas, Sabes quien eres, this last one dedicated to a world famous President, the political subjects touched here are quite interesting and they are surely worth listening closely, some of the songs are very unpredictable(at least to me, new to La Ley's style) they seem to begin some kind of mellow and then they take off with energy and power to some beautifully crafted chorus in a new direction almost unpredictable for what you are listening at the beggining of the songs especially on the last three excellent songs closing the album : Mi ley,Hotel Malibu, and the gorgeous album closer : Mundo Ideal. What else? if you are undecided about it BUY IT ! this is universal quality in song writing and very well done and also good singing. now that I am hooked to their sound anybody with more LA Ley Knowledge would recommend what Should I get next from these cool band ? write me at javier@novoexpress.com. Oh, take my word on this CD ,I own nearly 300 cds from diffrent artist (rock, pop, clasic rock, alternative, elctronica etc.) and this one ranks in my Top 30 and I am very picky to let any CD in my Top lists.
