One hundred years after the Spaniards left, the Mexicans undertook the fight for "land and liberty" ( tierra y libertad ) from the oligarchs. In 100 selections from the Casasola Archive in Mexico, published in conjunction with an exhib it in Great Britain, photographer Casa sola presents the sensuous shapes of sombreros, the bandoliered Adelitas (camp followers), the cross-like arms of the saguaros behind the execution grounds, on which a man clenching a fresh cigar in his teeth grins insouciant ly at the squad.
