For those who find textbooks dry and are searching for a well presented, colorful history of the US, I can not recommend this series enough for the upper elementary and even junior high grades. The books have very nicely done pictures and read well. I purchased this book especially for my 6th grade daughter who is fascinated by the Revolutionary War. She read it for pleasure over Christmas break! I plan also to use it with my 8th grade son as a supplement to his US history reading this year.

This is the base for our Revolutionary War learning. Betsy and Giulio Maestro always do an outstanding job researching and presenting the histroy in their books. But the illustrations! The illustrations cement this time period and its events into the reader's mind. Packed with action, every illustration tells the story. This book provides multiple maps -- ELEVEN maps! -- along with portraits, flags, close-ups of weaponry and uniforms, and a wonderful depiction of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

There is no way to improve upon this book. The field of excellent books on the Revolutionary War is crowded, but "Liberty or Death" stands on top.
