4.0 out of 5 stars Nice sturdy hose cart.
Like so many others have mentioned I got tired of the cheap plastic carts that lasted a year, maybe two if you were lucky. I spent a day going around to Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc and couldn't find anything except for the cheap plastic carts. So as is becoming the norm I turn to Amazon.

This cart just arrived. It took about 20-30 minutes to assemble...

1.0 out of 5 stars Liberty Garden Hose Reel - Poorly made in China

1.0 out of 5 stars Liberty Garden Hose Reel - Poorly made in China, April 29, 2009
This review is from: Liberty Garden Products 840-1 Residential Grade 4-Wheel Garden Hose Reel Cart with 250-Foot-Hose Capacity (Lawn & Patio)
Good design but poorly made in China. 1) The first thing you'll notice is the stench of the "rubber" tires. This goes away after a couple of weeks. 2) The central component, the brass swivel/o-ring fitting at the leader hose/reel hub attach point, was too short. I had to disassemble it in order to get a wrench on the fitting to tighten it. Not too difficult if you have the correct retaining ring pliers. 3) The metal wasn't properly cleaned before powder coating, so large pieces flake off when you tighten the nuts and bolts during assembly. 4) There is no friction device on the reel, so the reel continues to spin after you pull on the hose, causing the hose to uncoil on the reel. 5) The hoops on the reel are full of welding slag, which makes an interesting tumbling sound when you turn the reel. 6) The leader hose is stiff and cheap.
I've already replaced this with a quality product from Rapid Reel. American made by a family business in Lincoln, NE. See link.Rapid Reel 225-Foot Four-Wheel Wagon Hose Reel #GH168-WG

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality and Construction, April 29, 2009
This review is from: Liberty Garden Products 840-1 Residential Grade 4-Wheel Garden Hose Reel Cart with 250-Foot-Hose Capacity (Lawn & Patio)
Reel connection for the hose leaks a great deal. I have taken it apart and reassembled it 3 times without success. Can't seem to get parts to try and replace the connection. Reel does not have any friction to stop it from "free wheeling" after you pull the hose. A waste of a hundred bucks.

Had this hose reel for 24 hours. It's returned. Money back. Save the time, effort and money. It leaked like a fountain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just awful, July 26, 2009
This review is from: Liberty Garden Products 840-1 Residential Grade 4-Wheel Garden Hose Reel Cart with 250-Foot-Hose Capacity (Lawn & Patio)
Like everyone has said this thing is terrible. Had mine for a year and the handle on the reel rusted and broke off. And I brought it in in the Winter! The quality of the materials used to make this are simply awful, the form factor is great and very useful, but it will fall apart under normal use. Go with something of quality you money will be better spent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, tires are crap, July 13, 2010

I purchased this item from Lowes. I had to fix the leaky problem which was nothing more than tightening an allen hex screw. My problem is the tires. All the tubes are rotten and the tires are flat. I do not understand the advantage of having tires that hold air. It is not an off road unit. Fairly good solid rubber would function just fine. I would not recommend this item unless you have the ambition to store it indoors whenever it is not in use. I am sure that sitting outside exposed to the sun and weather is probably going to cause premature part(s) failure.

This cart just arrived. It took about 20-30 minutes to assemble. Assembly is a breeze if you have a good wrench set. It looks to be plenty sturdy and all the fittings are brass and very solid. It should hold up to years of usage. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was there was a burr on one of the collars that holds the axles preventing the axle from being inserted. It was a simple matter to file it down, so that is a minor disappointment, might have been major had I not had the file I needed and had to go buy one.

All in all a good buy and I would recommend this cart.

"After having what I consider pure junk, a suncast plastic cart, this one looks to be something we will be happy with.
But time will tell...Looks very sturdy and so far no leaks or hose blowing off the side like the other folks plastic one did."
As far as a stench from the tires, well they smell like rubber,...and its a hose cart, not a living room decorative piece, so,....so what.?
I had no flaking of the paint as one review stated they did...Im not doubting them...but I didnt have that as a problem.
The parts for the plumbing of this are pretty standard, so if a problem plumbing wise develops, just get parts from your local hardware store....Its not industrial grade, but I would say moderatly heavy average home owner use and care, and it should serve you well....I was reluctant to spend double the money than the plastic ones, but I do believe we made a good choice with this one..

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly manufactured..., April 5, 2011
This review is from: Liberty Garden Products 840-1 Residential Grade 4-Wheel Garden Hose Reel Cart with 250-Foot-Hose Capacity (Lawn & Patio)
Bought this product at the end of last summer. The concept is excellent however, the paint faded and the reel began to rust. Then the brass fittings snapped! It is presently in pieces. I received one season of use then it broke. Definately not worth it.

I bought this cart two years ago at Loews. The coating is flaking off and the tubing and fasteners are rusting. Another "bargain" product made in China, I am shopping on Amazon today for a replacement. I am not sure what you have to do to buy something of reasonable quality? This is not a give away price.

I Like the product as I now have the portability to become mobile in and around my yard. The reel is simple and nice to operate as the hose does not kink or get tangled. Easy to Assemble. Tip: The wheels need some air added to them. Before assembling the cart, take the wheels to a local "air center" and have air put into them before you install them. That way, you won't have to haul the whole cart with you to go get some air. Fortunately, in my case I had an air compressor and didn't need to do this, but did think about those who may not own an air compressor. Overall, very happy with the product. Very sturdy and works well.
