This is the third one of these I've purchased, and due to one simple change, it's the best of the lot.

Yes, you DO need to dig a hole in the ground and securely set this thing in place -- after all, it's going be holding 20, 30, or 40 pounds or more of hose and you need it to be stable.

Other models I've owned have featured a horizontal input connection, which has put a strain in the supply hose (the one coming from your spigot or other water source. Typically, these hose stands are backed up against a wall, and you end up having to permanently bend your supply hose to accommodate the horizontal input and squeeze it in place. This eventually leads to failure, and puts undue sideways pressure on the input in the back of the stand.

THIS model has a 90-degree input connection, and points DOWNWARD -- utterly brilliant! Your supply hose lays on the ground, and easily and naturally turns upwards to connect to the back of the hose stand. No awkwardly-bent connections, no strain, etc. What a great idea!

This product appears to be all steel and brass, and gives the impression that it'll last a long, long time.

Worth every penny of the asking price, I recommend this stand without reservation!

We bought this for 26.99 at a local hardware store rather then the current 39.99 amazon price. We also opted to throw out the plastic fitting that comes with it and replace with a metal male to male fitting (about $4) and use a washing machine hose ($5-$10 depending on length) to connect from our existing faucet to the male fitting in the faucet & hose stand, as they are made to be under constant pressue without leaking. So far it's doing great, couldn't be happier :-)

Update: original review was march 2012, this update is august 2013. This is still working great, haven't had to replace anything. Did turn the original faucet off during the winter months to kerp freezing temps from breaking the connecting hose.

There is one end of our house where my wife & I make several trips with a watering can to water flowers. We are in our 70's and do not wish to carry or drag a hose to this area. I saw a faucet stand advertised and knew this would solve our problem but it was not well designed, so did a search and the only one I felt would do the job was the liberty garden hose stand. Bought this item and am impressed with the quality and it fits our needs perfectly.
Only problem I had was water inlet is 3/4 female standard hose thread, non swivel if you run a standard hose to this you are connecting the non-swivel male end of the hose to a non-swivel female fitting of the stand which means you have to rotate the entire hose or the stand must rotate which is not going to happen if it is already installed in the ground. I put some fittings together that worked but would be nice if swivel hose connector was supplied.

Sturdy, well-made. The built-in faucet is very useful. Turned out to be easy to install. Another reviewer suggested plopping the base over a piece of pipe. I used a piece of pressure-treated 2x2, which fit perfectly in the square recess. Just pounded the 2x2 into the ground, slipped the stand over it, and I was done. Now it can be moved elsewhere very easily. At only $40, this is a great bargain.

When my package of two of these faucet extensions arrived, I was less than pleased because they need to be buried about a foot deep - and guess who digs the hole? The description didn't mention the hole digging business. Others I've purchased in the past included a stake you pound into the ground and slide the pole down over the stake and I assumed this one was the same. In this case I bought a T-post for fencing at Tractor Supply and some plastic supplies and attached the faucet to the T-post. No hole digging, and the whole thing is a foot higher off the ground so I don't have to lean over or squat down to turn water on/off or to wrap the hose over it.

This works well and since it comes fully assembled there is no assembly to do. Be sure to also get a good strong hose to go between this and the water source. If that breaks and you leave the water on you will have a major water leak.

The product worked correctly; no leaks with the faucet and it seems to be sturdy. I like the idea of the input hose being curved down to take the pressure off the hose, but it would be nicer if the output of the faucet was also curved down instead of at a 45 degree angle. However, I was surprised that this product really did not have an easy way to be placed into the ground. There is no wedge on the bottom (it is just square) and it did not seem that I culd put it into the ground without first digging a hole. I put a metal stake into the ground, but since the top could not go any higher than the faucet, this did not work well. I finally clamped and wired the device onto the metal stake. I do not use the hose storage, since it would have to be better anchored for this to work. It would be better if it came with a stake that was the correct size and dimensions to support this. I have used another product that had a pointed area at the end and it worked well. While this device can be anchored in the ground, I did not do it because I want to be able to remove it at the end of the season, like I do the other ones I have. Removing it and storing it inside the shed would protect it from the weather.
