First Impressions,

My gaiters arrived yesterday and my first impression was that they were very nice. Material seems very strong and the overall construction seems very good. Took them on a 3+ mile walk in a cold blowing drizzle this morning over wet pavement and very saturated ground. When I got home, my socks, boots and the cuffs of my pants were nice and dry. I was very pleased.
I did feel the need to make a couple very slight modifications to the gaiters for my own easy or use. I replaced the draw string at the top of the gaiter with a longer one. This allows me to tie them in front of my leg instead of behind. Makes it much easier to secure. I also replaced the strap the goes under the boot with a small bungee cord. I crimped the hook on one end of the bungee cord to the grommet on the inside of the gaiter so it is semi-permanently attached. Once the gaiter is on, I can hook the other side of the bungee cord into the grommet on the other side, and I'm off. Much easier than tying and untying the cord that came with the gaiters.

Works great.
I looked for a chip ankle gaiters in Amazon, I ordered them not expecting a lot, took them for a week hike in the mountains and discovered that this is an excellent item, kept in its place all the time, kept my Asolo Fugitive GTX clean inside and on the top, I put half my leg in mud and the inside of my boots were clean all the time. I highly recommend this item. Only thing is that during your hike don't take them off because you need to really clean them before the zipper attaches again.

while the idea of this product is great and useful the actuality leaves much to be desired
the zipper in the back is a pain the laces keep coming untied,, both those around the ankle and under the shoe with some modification it could be a geat product and the price is right if you are willing to sew velcro colosure on the front and forget the zipper and replace the laces it is worth it,, otherwise don't bother good luck

Well made, made a few modifications - replaced knot on calf with a cordlock and replaced tie under the heel with a piece of shock cord. Good value even with the modifications

no more gravel in my boots!,

This is my first set of gaiters.
Excellent value for the price. Workmanship of the item appears quite good. I wear these in with my Vasque Wasatch GTX boots. These boots were like a funnel for pea-gravel. One of my favorite trails has several patches where pea-gravel is prevalent. Before I got these gaiters, the gravel would be in my boots the instant I got on the trail. Maddening. These gaiters come with a piece of black cordura webbing to be used as the "stirrup." I was initially skeptical that the furnished webbing was long enough. So, I substituted para cord for the stirrup function. In retrospect, I think the furnished webbing is adequate if you don't have your own ideas about stirrup construction. I ended up gluing (super glue) the knots on the stirrup so the knots cannot come undone. After several short hikes, the knots are still secure, and the para-cord is none the worse for wear. The zipper is not impressive looking. So far though, the zippers have not given me any trouble. It is a skinny little zipper though. The front of the gaiter clips to the boot's shoelace by a metal clip. The top of the gaiter closes with a nylon-cord drawstring. I would have preferred an elastic cord to keep the top of the gaiter more secure. It looks like a simple task to substitute the existing cord at a later time if I want to make that another project. It took me a few minutes initially to figure out how to get the gaiters on properly, and get them correctly adjusted. The first step is to figure out how long you want the stirrup. Too long, and the gaiter will ride over the boot. Too short, and you won't be able to negotiate the zipper. Allow some time before your first outing with these to sort out the correct length for the stirrup. Once you have the stirrup issue solved, you put on your boots, and slide the stirrup under the boot. Do not engage the front clip yet! With the stirrup in place, rotate the gaiter so that the zipper is along the inseam side of the boot. There, you can get the zipper started, and fully zipped. Then spin the gaiter around to the normal position, and engage the metal clip on a lace that is low enough to prevent the gaiter from riding over the boot. If you have done everything right, the back edge of the gaiter will not override the back of the boot top. I can't figure out any way to leave the gaiter on the boot between hikes, as the gaiter prevents you from reaching the upper rows of your boot laces. Remember to KNOT your boot laces before you put on the gaiters! Otherwise, if your boot comes untied on the trail, you are going to be in for a start-all-over drill with the boot. The gaiters completely solved the gravel-in-the-boot issue that was plaguing me. I couldn't be happier. Four stars for sure. Didn't give 5 because of the not-so-impressive zipper, stingy supply of stirrup material, and absence of elastic in the cinch-cord at the top of the gaiter. Minor issues for sure, but it should be "perfect" to rate a five.

i love my gaiters i use them to hike mountains and cross streams and in the snow they kept everything out of my boots the only draw back is that the string on the bottom is a little hard to keep a knot in but once its tight your good and atleast it isnt a stitched on one that could rip then your effed you can always just retie it till its good. on the contrary my buddy is a freakin spaz and can put them on to save his life i have to do mine then his like a little kid so im sure his review would be a little different but for the price who could complain

This is a good product, very strong. The only problem I have with it is the drawstrings for tying onto bottom of boot. Would have been better if it could snap into place, as its somewhat awkward to tie. Someone else had a similar suggestion, so taking care of that problem leaves a very durable, reliable product.

This Gaiter appears perfect. I will use it next week. If anything it may be too strong a fabric. Guessing it will last forever.
