Online searching is key in almost any kind of library these days, and librarians who can conduct good searches and train their patrons to do the same have got to be worth their weight in gold (although not at budget time). This book will give you some good ideas for starting places and what to do when you're there. My only issues, frankly, is that availability of online resources changes all the time, and someone dedicated to this function will need more than a list of resources and strategies to keep up with it. This is a great introduction, but you'll need to study further, and probably on your own.

My husband needed this book for his college Master's of Library and Information Science classes and it was perfect. Would recommend.

It's a textbook. I got it for class. What more do I expect? It didn't put me to sleep, though.

Useful for understanding the underpinnings of databases and *why* certain searches work better than others. Extremely useful for library science students and practicing librarians - if you work in reference, this needs to be part of your background.

This book provides a great guide for any reference librarian as well as anyone who just wants to improve their searching abilities.
It goes over topics such as Boolean logic, operators, etc.

I feel that this book was a good investment for my graduate studies program. If you need experience in learning how to search a database, this may be a good starting place for you.
