Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This book is a well-rounded collection of papers that discuss the impact of the Internet and National Research and Education Network (NREN) on different types of libraries. The first four chapters summarize the results of two research studies, conducted by the authors, focusing upon the role of academic and public libraries and the Internet/NREN. The next four chapters, each written by different authors, discuss the impact upon library media programs, special libraries, the federal depository library program, library education, and the economics of networked information. The final chapter, "Towards a New Librarianship," discusses the steps librarians should consider in establishing the framework of the digital library. This book's breadth certainly provides a "big picture," but the corresponding lack of depth may limit the interest of professionals who are already well versed in the literature. Certainly appropriate for graduate school education as well as working librarians desiring a good over-view of the issues.
