Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This guide to effective library services mission statements pairs nicely with The Public Library Start-Up Guide [RBB Mr 1 04]. Both written by library professionals experienced in library administration and public relations, these compact volumes work together to provide focus and options in planning, promoting, and developing or expanding a library. Although they can be used separately, their subjects are complementary and interrelated. Establishing a library with furnishings, staff, and services does little good if its mission and promotion of that mission are not carefully considered, just as a clear vision of service is useless if the institution cannot meet its goals. Take a two-fisted approach and study both guides, and you'll not only provide the best library service but be able to explain how and why you do so. RBB

5.0 out of 5 stars Featuring over one hundred example mission statements, February 8, 2004
This review is from: Libraries, Mission and Marketing: Writing Mission Statements That Work (Paperback)
Linda K. Wallace is a talented library communications professional who draws upon her experience and expertise in Libraries, Mission, & Marketing: Writing Mission Statements That Work to provide Library Science students and novice community librarians with an excellent and accessible guide to the power of mission statements required in order to turn ideas into action for the benefit of an academic, corporate, or community library system. Featuring over one hundred example mission statements used in libraries today (divided by type of library and sub-categorized to take into account varying nuances), Libraries, Mission, & Marketing is a simply superb resource for crafting an optimum mission statement for libraries regardless of size or setting, and especially useful to anyone confronted with the problem of creating a mission statement for their library system.
