Wall of Sound In Action,

I randomly bought this cd the other day and what a great surprise! Layers of sound around simple pop songs and echoed vocal harmonies is a good recipe for me. Apparently I just missed them in my town, but I will be picking up their other cd, which is supposed to be more stripped down. Fans of Papercuts and Camera Obscura will definitely like this one.

I saw "The Love Language" open for Cursive a couple years ago and I fell in love with them. Liking an opening band is a very rare thing for me but these guys made me feel something special. I bought their first album that night and love every track on it. So you can imagine how excited I was to find out that they went in the studio and recorded something new. I am happy to say that they did a great job! The heart and soul on this album just oozes through every track. I love this!

summer's best,

High rotation. Super-smart, multi-layered indie rock. Sounds like a dashboard radio classic in all the best ways.

One of my favorite scenes from a movie was when Harry Dean Stanton sung Roy Orbison's IN DREAMS into a garage mechanics lantern in the great BLUE VELVET. LIBRARIES, the second album by NC group The Love Languages is pretty much in that vein.Mixing strong pre-Beatle melodies and swooning vocals with colossal Wall of Sound production, LIBRARIES has a timeless pop feel to it. Listen close however, and you hear strangley distubing lyrics. The perfect example is HORROPHONES where the Spectorish music builds like a summer storm cloud while the singer goes on about how all young children wish to die. At he end comes a squalling guitar right out of My Bloody Valentine, and there you have a modern classic. This album has been on constant rotation for the last couple years. Everytime I listen, I hear some new little detail or refernce. Good stuff. |
