Grade 3-6-- Brown begins this easy-to-read biography with a brief but interesting explanation of why this child's life and private thoughts are of interest to today's youngsters. The information that follows is accurate and is presented in a lively, straightforward manner. Anne Frank is described as a high-spirited young girl who talked too much in class and who giggled at boys at age 11. She is very much a real person with endearing and sometimes mischievous character traits. Her story is anchored firmly in the events of the time, both in Germany and the Netherlands; there is enough historical information presented to provide readers with a sense of time and place. Approximately half of the book describes the Franks' experiences in hiding and includes details of daily routines and cramped living conditions. I wanted a book to tell the Anne Frank story to my 11 year old grandson. This is a wonderful book and it tells the story so young people can understand it. I thoroughly recommend it and wish it were not out of print so I could buy it and give it to some friends for their children.

I thought of this book as an o.k. book. It was a little disturbing during the book as she was seeing the natsees taking jews away from their homes. But there were some joyful parts like as she was saying her dreams, and what she wants to own. The saddest part is the afterward. Nothing is very sepcial except for the fact that it is a true story. It wasn't a turn pager, and it didn't interest me a whole lot. I give it between a 6 to a 7 out of ten.
