4.0 out of 5 stars Disc storage, but not a disc reader, June 25, 2007
This review is from: Cd Dvd Library Management Automated Carousel DC300 (Electronics)
This is a simple usb version of a dust jacket. It only stores the discs in a tray. It does NOT read the discs at all. Granted, the description doesn't specifically say it does, but its cleverly worded descriptions lead you to believe it does, espececially since it touts USB connectivity and that you can find your disc through the included database application. The application database requires you to manually type in a description of each CD or DVD in the revolving tray, sorted by a number. So, I'm still looking for one that will read discs and do all this automatically and store it to a database.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD Carosel, February 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This item is outstanding. It can be used with or without a computer, goes directly to the CD you desire and flips it out so you can get hold of it easily.

This unit works great. I am using it with Vista and [...]MovieCollector. The documentation is as you suspect from a far easter compnay who imports it and sticks their badge on it. Despite what it says elsewhere, you DO have to install the supplied software to get MC to recognize it, I also had to use a USB hub. The documentation about the lock is wrong (locked should be unlocked and vice versa)

What wasn't clear and took me ages to figure out was for the load eject mecahnism work you have to manually open the little perspex door. I didn't want to force it, but it turned out what the manual showed as unlocked for the key position was in fact locked. Once I figured that out and the USB hub and driver software, it worked great. I just ordered a second unit. After loading the initial 100+ movies, I use the unit standalone with the keypad and not connected to MC, as they are too far from computer.

On the negative side:
Would be nice if the door was hooked to the load/unload mecahnism
Could be a bit quicker

I purchase the DC 300 and very happy with it, yes it does not read the DVD, But if you purchase Movie Collector software it works very well with DC 300. I going to purchase three more of these unit.
