Selections, May 28, 2011
This review is from: From the Library of A. W. Tozer: Selections From Writers Who Influenced His Spiritual Journey (Hardcover)
This book is a huge collection of almost 200 excerpts from Christian authors such as John Calvin, Augustine, Charles Spurgeon, Francis of Assissi, George Meuller, John Wesley, Madame Guyon, Martin Luther, and more. One of the things they all have in common is their influence on A. W. Tozer, a famous Christian pastor and author. The book is divided into eight sections including worship, prayer, and living a Christian life. At the end of the book there is a small biography on all the authors and a list of the works the selections came from which I liked. I did not read this book straight through. It is not to me a book you sit down and read like that. I liked the selections that I read. They are not easy to read and will make you think. It would make a great devotional. I look forward to reading more of the selections. Recommended.

From the Library of A. W. Tozer: Selections From Writers Who Influenced His Spiritual Journey, May 27, 2011
This review is from: From the Library of A. W. Tozer: Selections From Writers Who Influenced His Spiritual Journey (Hardcover)
It's been said that you can learn a lot about a man by the company he keeps, if that truly is the case, A.W. Tozer was a great man. From evangelists and preachers, to mystics and monks, James Stuart Bell gathered excerpts from the books that shaped Tozer into one of the greatest preachers of his generation.
"From the Library of A. W. Tozer" has a great index so you can quickly find writings of interest, as well as a list of publications that were used, many of which I will be adding to my library.
The selections are only a couple pages, which makes it great for devotional reading. The content is so rich, I couldn't consume more than that at a time anyway. This will be a staple in my library, and something I will pick up over and again through the years.
So go and get a copy of this one, because there's no way you're borrowing mine.
Thank you to Bethany House Publishers who provided this copy to me free of charge for review. A positive review was not required.

What Taught the Teacher, May 15, 2011
This review is from: From the Library of A. W. Tozer: Selections From Writers Who Influenced His Spiritual Journey (Hardcover)
I've read many quotes by Tozer but haven't actually read an entire Tozer book (something I plan to change this summer!), but when I had the opportunity to read the literature that influenced this amazing man, I grabbed it quick.
I like the format of this book. The author provides a brief biography on Tozer. The format of the book is nice in that, it is divided into eight sections starting with my favorite topic, worship. Quoted throughout the book are many of the church fathers such as Augustine, Francis of Assisi, as well as reformers Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox and nineteenth century theologians D.L. Moody and Charles Spurgeon. There is a wealth of knowledge in this book. Another thing I like about this book is author index in the back. You can quickly find all the writings of a particular author used in this volume.
However, I would not consider this book an "easy" read. This book will make you think so not for the faint of heart. There are writings in the book that are from non-Protestant writers. For some that might be a problem, but these writers influenced Tozer for a reason and as with any other their writings need to be taken in light of Scripture.
I would like to thank Bethany House for the opportunity to read and review this book.
