Five stars for a good story ... and more!, June 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: El Libro Secreto de Daniel Torres (Leer en Espanol: Level 2) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
The story begins with an intriguing find by Daniel, an Argentine writer and lecturer on Borges, at the US Library of Congress. He sees a card catalogue entry in his name about a book that he never wrote. His search for the truth about the book leads him to unravel his past ... and there is a an unexpected twist at the end.
This book which is recommended for nivel 2, seems to be a good introduction to a variation of Spanish spoken in Argentina. There is an explanatory note at the beginning about "voseo", which is basically the use of "vos" instead of "tu" or "ti." Throughout the book, instead of "hombre", the male characters call each other "che" (hence, Che Guevara, who was from Argentina). Other variations are also used, like "papas" instead of "patatas" for potatoes.
