Nils Landgren is one of the best-known Swedish jazz trombonists, and is quite a veteran in the field. I'm amazed that I'm the first to review this disc. It is fabulous in so many ways, not the least of which is Landgren's playing. He is supple, creative and exciting as a soloist. Sometimes it's hard to believe he's playing a trombone!! Some of his originals are a little less interesting, but the covers are great. Well worth the money!

This is one of five Nils Landgren(Funk Unit) cds that I own.Every one of them is top of the heap,5 star,as far as I'm concerned.If your into Maceo,AWB,Tower of Power or any other top notch funk bands,you need to get this.This music makes me feel good every time I play it.Thanks Nils and all your Funk Unit cats.

I came across Licence to funk by accident (I work in a library purchasing section and found it on a trolley of new CDs). Can not tell you how knocked out I was when I played it. Superb musicianship, great track selection, (nearly :)) perfectly balanced from beginning to end. No going through the motions here, the musicians are enjoying every moment, truly joyful playing. How could I have not heard of Nils Landgren before? He's raised the bar, making a lot of my previous favourites sound ordinary. I've since bought a number of his CDs, Funky ABBA being a favourite (I loathed ABBA in the 70's). If you like jazz funk I can not recommend Nils Landgren more highly.
