Review

"Lickin' the Beaters 2 is not for the faint of heart! Are you afraid of sugar and fat? Then don't buy this book! For those who like their vegan desserts sweet and rich I dare you to bake and boil until your house smells like a chocolate factory and your friends come banging on your door." —Chad Miller, Food Fight Vegan Grocery

"Sugar and spice and all things nice. That's what this little book is made of."   —Sarah Kramer, author, Vegan a Go-Go and How It All Vegan

The first book was low-fat recipes. This one is quite the opposite. For pete's sake, who wants to be perfect all the time? There are plenty of occasions for making these delectable sweets so indulge once in a while! I like being able to create sweets with confidence. Usually you have to find a candy or dessert recipe and cross your fingers that your vegan substitutes will work okay. Someone else has already done the work here and for that I am grateful. Ingredients like Earth Balance are expensive and I can't be throwing away a bunch of failed veganized traditional recipes. I have tried several different candies and a few of the baked goods and everything's been swoon-worthy. I would even go so far as to say this is a must-have for every cruelty-free kitchen.

I have a ton of vegan cookbooks, but none really address how to make vegan chocolate. This one does and does a great job of it. No, there are no photos in the book. It is an old-fashioned, gritty cookbook with tons of content. I have used this book many times since I purchased it and everything has been a hit.

I am very happy with this cookbook and highly recommend it--especially to anyone who has dreams of being a candy maker!!!

This looks so great, but 90% of the recipes are made with soy. I was hoping at least some of them would be coconut milk based, but it's all soy milk, soy milk powder, sweetened condensed soy milk, soy yogurt, soy cream, tofu sour cream, and vegan cream cheese. Even the coconut candies and desserts are made with soy.

This book was less about candy than it was about baked goods. I was looking for a book about making vegan candy.

I purchased this book wanting to learn how to make vegan chocolate and other candies. Unfortunately, many of the recipes call for using white sugar or purchasing vegan chocolate from a store. I was looking for a purely from scratch approach and not one of having to purchase items already made. Not what I was expecting.
