Good if you can Read music.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hot Licks For Bluegrass Fiddle (Paperback)
This is a good book generally. I does have 450 licks of 2 or 3 measures. If you can learn all of these it would vastly improve your playing. However, the included Cd only has 75 of the licks in the book so if you are not adept at reading music you might not be able to utilize all of them. Some of the recordings seem to be slighty out of pitch.

Great discussion of fiddle improv for those who can read music,

I bought this with the hope that it would help me develop more speed and versatility in improvising fills, etc., and I'm pleasantly surprised. Useful material and fun, helpful commentary; helps you build a repertoire of licks in all keys with frequent reference to the work great fiddlers. Music reading skills a must, some music theory is helpful, but it's much more instructive than a fakebook. My secondhand version didn't have a CD, but I find the text alone helpful.

This review is from: Hot Licks For Bluegrass Fiddle (Paperback)
I just started working on this book and can't wait to continue. It's a great resource. Everything is explained really well and I love all the examples. This book really gets me thinking creatively about my solos and my improvisational options when fiddling. It will also give me a lot of riffs to fall back on in case I ever get stuck during a solo. My only complaint is that the author didn't record all the licks. The recording examples provided are great and this book is definitely worth buying.
