We got this fridge with our new house that we bought last year. The fridge is 2.7 years old and looks beautiful, both outside and inside. It worked fine and has some nice design features.

So far so good. However, last week it broke (false alarm, temp control issues etc). Liebherr contracts their US service with Adco company in Arizona. They referred me to a local Seattle appliance shop. They diagnosed the main control board as failing & need to replace it. Turns out the part is ~$300 and the warranty is 2 years, i.e. I'm 7 months outside of warranty. Adco/Liebherr refuse to show any flexibility on that - even though it's a control board, not a fridge door - it shouldn't be failing for years to come.

My local Seattle repair shop orders the part with expedited 3-day air delivery and gets that order confirmed. 7 days later there is no part and the casual statement from Adco that it is not in stock in the US and they have to get it from Germany. No ETA. No apology. No ownership. No solution. Not even the offer to call me back and keep me posted - just simply dis-interested. Liebherr: Please make this item more reliable. And please fix your US service network.

Update from January 2013 (moving from 1star to 3stars):
After several unsuccessful repair attempts we ended up replacing the fridge. Liebherr has been good to work with on this. I think my final opinion of this fridge is (still not actually knowing what part broke): It's a beautiful piece of high technology. And all its hightech is geared toward energy efficiency which it does really well. But its level of sophistication might make it hard for the average repair shop to diagnose if any issues arise.

We have had this fridge for about 4 years and it gets mixed reviews at our house. What is important to understand is that it is designed to have a super-low-energy consumption. It runs at the minimal level required to maintain the set temperature. If you put, for example, leftovers from dinner or a bunch of groceries into the fridge, the warmth of the food will increase the ambient temp and the "warning signal" will start beeping. To avoid the beeping you need to remember to hit the "super-cool" button to tell the fridge (or freezer) to kick into high gear.

The MAJOR problem with this design is that if you forget to hit the "super-cool" button (and you will forget) is that it takes a few HOURS for the ambient temp to rise and the warning beeps to begin. So, if you put leftovers in the fridge at 8:00 at night, the fridge will start beeping at 2:00 in the morning. ARGHHH!! This makes my husband CRAZY. I'm willing to put up with it because I really like the size and simplicity of the overall design and it's basic functionality.

Oh, another problem is the ice maker. The mechanism (housed at the top of the ice bucket) is VERY delicate and breaks easily. Don't get me started on the ice maker. It's a problem. We've had to fix it 3 times in 4 years.

This ranks as one of the worst products we've ever bought.

The finish does not clean, period. We have tried numerous stainless steel cleaners and it just never comes clean.
We contacted the distributor and he told us the finish was only partial, we were expected to finish it with the small 2 oz. bottle they supplied. What the hell is this, ridiculous.

We have owned this fridge for awhile now. The lower freezer keeps going into warning mode and does not maintain a constant temperature.
I know it is only a matter of time, very short hopefully, and it will go.

I, having talked my wife into this fridge have taken many reminders not only by looking at the bad finish but from my wife as well.

The money we spent $3,650 could have bought anyone of the major brands.
Save yourself a lot of grief and look elsewhere.

It is truly hard to believe a product of this low quality can survive the German marketplace, maybe that's why they are selling them here.

In 2011 I bought 2 Liebherr 24" refrigerator/freezer units which creates a regular 48" refrigerator in my brand new kitchen. When one of the unit broke down I called Liebherr customer service and since it was still under manufacturer warranty I got a replacement without any problem. However, the new unit didn't match the old one since they made some changes on the 2013 model. When I called Liebherr customer service again and asked for their manager, he was very professional, understanding and helpful. He responded ​to ​my emails in a timely fashion and did everything in his power to solve my problem. I just got my second new unit and I can only praise and thank Liebherr customer service for their professional and caring attitude toward their customers. I would definitely choose a Liebherr product again because I know that if any kind of problem would arise I can count on their customer service!
