5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing Truth, November 14, 1999
This review is from: The Lies We Believe (Paperback)
This book was the beginning of a journey that has changed my life. After suffering through many years of anxiety and depression, among other things, The Lies We Believe showed me the misconceptions that I had been letting cause my unhappiness and ultimately it has led me to a deeper understanding of myself and Jesus Christ. If you take the Truth from this book to heart, you also can experience the peace that has begun to flow in my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Life-Changer, May 30, 2002
By
This review is from: The Lies We Believe (Paperback)
My family practice physician "prescribed" this book for me during a very dark period in my life. It's short, practical and a very easy read. I make it a practice to re-read the book at least once a year.

While I've found the book makes an excellent gift for folks who are suffering, it's important for the giver to remember that reading this book -- or any book -- doesn't guarantee a magic fix. The reader must be committed to change. But sometimes when we're suffering, we're so overwhelmed that we don't know where to begin. This book has some mightily powerful suggestions.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The lies we believe (Hardcover)
Purchased this book hoping to be enlightened with some methods of dealing with stress. It falls a bit short of that in the fact that the author believes that people can shut off emotions at will like a faucet. I have been trying to get a problem solving book showing best methods to deal with lifes problems and this fell short. It does have some words of wisdom and clearly shows that how we view issues will determine how well we cope with them. So it does no harm to read. But it does throw out the enormous complexity of everyday events like dealing with family members or spouses or children. It over simplifies issues like weight gain just saying hey, there is no problem. Perhaps sometimes there is a problem. Just when do we need to do something constructive about an issue? Just to ignore every issue does not make good sense to me. This book would work well for someone like a "spock" from Star Trek if you are a vulcan free of emotions. It preaches basic communication, sacrifice, and understanding, but we already knew all that is good. Overall this book gives good words of wisdom that we already know without any earth shattering discoveries like how to calm down when you are late for a airplane flight and you are sitting in a traffic jam and your due to present your companies sales pitch to clients in the morning. Oh yeah, and your car is overheating and the ac just quit working and you are low on gas (and you really got to go to the bathroom, like now). Hey, just smile and whistle a happy tune, after all it is just how you react to the situation. Yeah, right.....That is when you wish you were Spock and could just beam the heck out of there.
