Editorial Reviews

Thank you for your work; it is informative and a really great read!  I would love to know if the characters [are real or] emerged from your creative mind. Again, thanks so much for your book I'm looking forward to reading more! JN

From the Author

After traveling to Amsterdam, I had an extensive timeline and a story that had to be told. It's amazing that many people today have no idea that their ancestors were Jews. How could that be? This story explains how it happened. Think your ancestors were Christian? Think again.

More About the Author

Historical fiction writer Suellen Ocean has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sonoma State University. The former radio personality has a "knack for storytelling and for making characters come alive." Although the stories are rather sexy and string romances together, she bases her novels on people who have suffered injustices. Suellen also has a non-fiction series, 'Secret Genealogy'. "I accumulated years worth of research for my historical novels, so I created the genealogical series to work as a companion to the novels. Since the novels are about people hiding their ethnic roots, I thought a reference book providing more details, would benefit the readers."

Akev is a hamlet in medieval Holland where the Jews hide in plain sight. Refugees from the Spanish Inquisition, over many generations they discover relative safety and comfort within its boundaries. Ms. Ocean brings the bustling straats of Amsterdam to life in this very unique epic that follows the lives of Jewish chroniclers--walking, talking newspapers--who bring news to their people about the state of the world as they knew it, from the Holy Land, to Western Europe and even the New World. Ever on the alert for dangers to the Jewish community, the sons of the chroniclers pick up where their fathers leave off. Anyone and everyone becomes a potential news source--from the wealthy and powerful, to the captains of trading ships, to the 'working girls' of Damstraat. Meticulously researched and... yes there are tasteful and delightful erotic scenes. I loved this novel. My only complaint would be my wish to see each character have a novel of his own, but that's only because I wanted more-- so not a real complaint. I can envision this being made into an amazing television miniseries.
