4.0 out of 5 stars Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right, May 2, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
The McCall's are having marital problems. Donovan cheated and now Teri is finding it hard to trust him and move on in their marriage. The unsaid keeps them on opposing sides.

While the bickering continues, Donovan still blames Teri for the miscarriage. Work has completely consumed her and not much has changed since. A night out leads to an interesting find for Teri. Sean Morris, a cardiologist, makes it clear to Teri that he is interested in getting to know her. Flattered, she dismisses the thought, but soon finds herself intrigued by him. Besides, they share a common thread; they have both been cheated on. Unfortunately, for Teri, it's more to Sean than meets the eye.

Shame and regret threatens to inflict more strain on their already crushed marriage. Can they forgive and forget or is there more to this story?

In my opinion, the story was unsurprising, though it tried to bill itself as suspenseful. The story just seemed to happen way too quickly without much provocation. There are issues with the editing, but for the most part, "The Lies That Bind" by D.L Sparks is an all right read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The TRUTH Will Set You FREE!, March 20, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
The truth shall set you free - should have been the guiding force for Dr. Teresa McCall. Over the last year, she had been trying to rationalize why her husband (Donovan) stepped away from their marriage. The disconnection between them had become overwhelming allowing the enemy room for attack. Even though Donovan promised the affair was over and that he wanted their marriage to work, Teri didn't believe it. Enter Dr. Sean Morris, a talented cardiologist, who has his eyes set on Teri. The drama between Teri, Donovan and Sean escalates to places that I never thought could be achieved. Renee, Teri's best friend, is her voice of reason in the crazy mess that Teri has created.

Sparks sets the fiction world on fire with her freshman work. The character development is top notch while the story is definitely a page turner. The love scenes are HOT while the verbal confrontations are FIRECE. Warning: don't start reading this book unless you have time to complete it as you won't want to put it down. THE LIES THAT BIND could be the next Lifetime Movie blockbuster!

5.0 out of 5 stars Connected By Lies, March 10, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
Dealing with an unfaithful husband is not easy, and the repercussions of such can be devastating, but Dr. Teresa McCall finds a way to deal with it her way in D.L. Sparks, The Lies That Bind. However, is it all the good doctor's intentions, or is another storm brewing to push her in the direction she goes?

Teri, a well-respected psychologist, could only empathize with the women who would come to her for counseling after their spouses cheated, but she was not prepared for the feelings that came when her husband, Donovan, cheated on her. Coming to terms with her emotions and trying to decide if reconciliation is the best for the couple was difficult, to say the least, for Teri.

With Teri and Donovan going back and forth with the decision to repair their marriage or let it go, Teri meets Dr. Sean Morris, a cardiologist at one of Atlanta's hospitals, and fine as he want to be. Teri tried to deny the obvious attraction, but found herself in his presence and liking it far more than she anticipated.

Will Teri choose to reconcile with Donovan and repair their marriage, or will she leave Donovan for good and accept the proposition that Sean presents to her?

At first I thought I had the story line all figured out, but as the story unfolded, I was surprised at the story that was brewing underneath what was being shared through the main character. I really like the story because I could only speculate what I thought would be the ending. I recommend this book to readers who love a "who done it" and romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!!!, February 1, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
In D.L. Sparks novel, The Lies that Bind, we are introduced to Teri and her husband Donovan who have been married for seven years and are not exactly seeing eye to eye. Teri is a successful pyschologist who's schedule is so demanding that it has created a separation between her and the man she loves so much. She desperately wants her marriage to work but through miscommunication from both ends she ends up falling into the arms of the successful and fine cardiologist Sean who comes on the scene and claims to be all she'll ever need. Shortly after they meet and start seeing each other, the lies, the deceit, and games begin and even though it started out as an innocent relationship it definitely doesn't end up that way. Now she's faced with running to the man she's fallen for or go back to the one she truly loves. This book was excellent from start to finish, I simply couldnt put the book down. If you're looking for an exciting and captivating read then this is the book for you! Great Job and looking forward to seeing more from this author. Younique Readers gives it their stamp of aproval!

5.0 out of 5 stars PAGE TURNER - FULL OF SURPRISES - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!, April 7, 2011
This book had me hooked from the start! I really thought Donovan was a jerk. Yes, Teri was really focused on her career and didn't pay enough attention to Donovan, but it sure was no excuse for Donovan to go off and have an affair in the first place. Neither one of them is perfect though. Teri really should have cut down on her hours and tried to get her marriage working better instead of trying to find a friend in Sean. Donovan wanted her to quit her job. I think she was afraid she would do that and he would just keep cheating on her and she would have no job and no husband.

The Lies That Bind was a page turner that was just full of surprises! I enjoyed every bit of this book, even though I got mad at the characters sometimes. The sex scenes were HOT! Nothing like a book with sex and suspense all wrapped up in one! D. L. Sparks did an excellent job bringing the characters to life for me, and I look forward to reading more from her!

4.0 out of 5 stars Live and Learn, July 14, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
I read DL's previous book and liked her writing style. Mrs Sparks didn't disappoint me this time. I enjoyed this novel, more so her style of writing. Even though I figured out the "surprise" it was still a novel worthy of reading.

Dr. Teresa McCall is a woman scorned and can't seem to get over an affair her husband Donovan had. No matter how hard she tries she can't forgive him.

Enter sexy and charming Dr. Sean Morris to light a spark under Teresa and give her more than enough reasons not to work on her failing marriage. Beware all that glitters is not gold and when his secrets come to light will Theresa be able to handle the bomb shell?

I enjoyed this novel and will continue to read Mrs Sparks novels. Although I was able to put the pieces together before it was revealed, I still was drawn to keep reading. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Unable to forgive and forget her husband's infidelity, Dr. Teresa "Terri" McCall embarks on an affair of her own which has dire consequences. Because of her hectic schedule, as a psychologist, at a thriving practice, Terri has little time for her marriage. However, there are other underlying reasons for her nonchalant attitude toward her marriage. Her husband, Donovan, wants his wife back and demands she quit her job. Between the pressure of the job, the demands from her husband, and her inability to let her husband's affair go, Terri's life spins out of control.

THE LIES THAT BIND is a book filled with twists and turns at every point. The secondary characters add an exciting element to the story. Terri's best friend provides reason and sanity to her situation while her lover wreaks havoc. This is not a typical story of infidelity where the affair happens and the parties involved find the truth; here the truth is as shocking as it is revealing.

D. L Sparks paints a very vivid picture in terms of the emotions at play as well as the scenery described. At times the story lagged and the behaviors of the characters were unrealistic, but overall THE LIES THAT BIND is an entertaining read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, July 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
The Ties that Bind was a very good read. The beginning was kinda of slow with Teresa and Donovan going back and forth with should they be together or not, but when the drama picked up, boy did it pick up. If you have not read The Ties that Bind, you are missing out on a good novel. Keep up the good work Ms. Sparks. I will be waiting for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Will Prevail!!!!, June 18, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
This is a good read and I can't wait until D.L Sparks comes out with another book. The girl on the cover looks like Jada Pinkett Smith and that's what got my attention.

Teresa is a successful doctor that can't get over her husband, Donovan's affair. It's been over six months since the year long affair. In order to cope with her husband's betrayal, Teresa meets Sean the husband of the woman that Teresa's husband had the year long affair with, and starts an affair of their own. Sean preys on Teresa's emotions in an effort to get Donovan back for his adulterous wife leaving him. The only problem is that Teresa doesn't know Sean's main objective.
The story is a fatal attraction web of lies, betrayal, deceit that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Are you ready for the ride? If so, then go and pick up this book. You won't be disappointed.

5 Stars for D.L Sparks debut!

*Edit to add...Sorry this is not D.L Sparks debut. She has another book "All That Glitters."(I think that's the name).

4.0 out of 5 stars AAMBC Book Reviews, May 15, 2010
This review is from: The Lies That Bind (Paperback)
Dr. Teresa McCall was a doctor who normally listened to everyone's problems for a living, but got a devastating dose of reality when trouble hits home. Always able to figure out someone's drama, she had no way of figuring out her own drama. Although her husband Donavan did the unthinkable when he carried on an affair for a year with a woman that gave him what Teresa didn't. Love, affection and attention came second to her career and she left an opening for another woman to give her husband what he needed.
With a little effort on Teresa's part to make their marriage work, she played her husband to the left because she just couldn't get over the affair even though six months had past. Things get more complicated when Sean enters the picture trying to be Donavan's replacement. He was there to cater to Teresa's emotional disorder, because after the storm becomes too much for Teresa she decided that her husband was the better man for her. That only ignites a flame in Sean that causes him to literally stalk her.
The Lies That Bind started off kind of subtle then it escalated to some levels that started to make Teresa look foolish. Although her husband did wrong, she had a major part in it, by not being the wife that he needed. Although Donavan made every attempt to correct his wrong, she was more resistant and allowed Sean to swoop in and basically talk her into doing everything that was against her marriage. As her situation got worst, I was kind of hoping that her husband wouldn't take her back. I got to a point where her behavior was driving me insane. I began to figure out the plot when Sean was pursuing her like she was the best thing since slice bread. Overall it was a good read. I was really happy that after all the madness, drama, lies and deceit it worked out for a couple that struggled through the entire story to work things out. Great job D.L. Sparks for an interesting read that kept me entertained.
